Oh my goodness...the Chichester Festival Theatre is about a 20 minute drive from me...
Just so you guys know, it's a pretty damn respected venue (just originated the 'Macbeth' with Patrick Stewart in that transferred to London) so I can imagine Miranda performing there.
The project sounds intriguing, and I think it could go either way. I am by no means disrespecting some of the ladies mentioned but Miranda is in a different class to most of them as an actress. Something about it doesn't really add up for me, and my gut says she won't do it. All this M&S business seems to give it a bit of a cheap feel, and I'm sure she wouldn't go for that. All the other stage work she's done has been pretty highbrow and classy...
But then it's the production team from 'Equus' and that was one of the most amazing pieces of theatre I have ever seen, so if it's in that league then why would she not do it?!
As to the nudity issue...I feel pretty strongly about this and I'm sure I've been here before on this board! If it serves the character and the piece and if it's not gratuitous then really, it's just another costume.
It bothers me that some of you say you have too much respect for her to want her to do it...being nude on stage is in no way cheap or nasty or disrespectful...I think the media has made such a fuss lately about it (I'm thinking Nicole Kidman in 'The Blue Room' and especially Daniel Radcliffe in 'Equus') that it's become something it's not.
She would not be degrading herself by appearing nude on stage if she felt that it was called for in her character.
Anyway, the whole point of 'Calendar Girls' is the complete cheekiness and good-natured way the do the nudity, I doubt anyone could be offended by that!
As you say, Helen, I have been waiting for years and years for Miranda to be in a play...I'm not holding my breath on this one... well, maybe I am a little bit!! Fingers crossed!

I feel exactly the same way about the leading ladies in Practical Magic but imo that's Nicole's best performance.
And i don't actually know what i'm doing for halloween, don't worry, i just plan my costume freakishly early!!!
