I love nothing more than an opera-trained voice, but it doesn't necessarily have to be opera it's singing. when it comes to male voices I prefer clear, but not hyper-trained like in opera, more like a bard would have been. or some decent metal, bien sur (but NOT this strange grunting where you can't make out a single word. 'tis shameful to the lyrics). a thing I can not stand at all is a) rap (though I'm rather fond of this one eminem song he wrote for his daughter, it kinda shows his human side) b) techno and dance and c) anything that is comparable to Shitney Spears or this strange being called Paris Hilton. that's not singing, that's ear-rape.

Loud music? You can't beat Andrew WK for that. Well you could beat them, but that'd be wrong and immoral.
Andrew WK play some sort of dance-metal, which I find really good. It's good music for headbanging along to without wanting intricate lyrics

Well, I love music, it makes part of my life since ever and I love all those types I said before, but I feel that is in opera you find the real singing. Of course that having a godmother who is an opera singer helps a lot! And I suppose Tarja studied as an opera singer too, she looks like a mezzo-soprano, I guess. I usually don't like mezzo-sopranos very much, but she is an exception to me, no doubts of it. Lol, by the way, it was my godmother who introduced me to Nightwish!! I'm in debt to her forever!!

yup, Tarja is mezzo-soprano. I think she originally was alto. I veeery much prefer her version of "Phantom of the Opera" to the soprano version from the movie.

Well for some reason I don't like the movie's version nor Nightwish's...I think it's because I grew up with the play version and that version is permanently stuck in my head.

that's often the case. I heard the video version of Blind Guardian's "The Bard's Song" before I heard the album version, and I was SO disappointed because it seemed to sound shallow. but now I realise it's nice as well. just not as good as the one I knew first.

I like the soprano's version too, but Emmy Rossum doesn't have the voice of a powerful soprano, she is a "light" soprano. And I totally dislike Sarah Brightman as a singer (sorry her fans, but it's just my opinion!). But I like Nightwish's version, is different from the other ones. I also would like to hear it sang by a powerful soprano, it would be good either.

Some Blind Guardian songs are overlayered, in my humble opinion, making it had to concentrate on Hansi's vocals. The first song on the Twist in the Myth CD (can't be bothered looking for it to find the name) is very very overcrowded with instruments and voices. I prefer songs such as Bright Eyes. As a matter of fact, I like Demons and Wizards more than Blind Guardian, probably because of Jon Schaeffers (spelt that wrong) guitar-work.

I can't really remember the movie PotO version, mostly because Miranda was the only remarkable thing in it (sorry to Gerard Butler and Emmy Rossum fans), but I do like NW version better. Mind you, it is very different, being a metal version and all.

Yeah. I like the live version on End of An Era better than the album version, though. Mind you, that might be because on the album, the greatness of PotO is instantly overshadowed by the godlike magnitude of the greatness of Beauty of the Beast.

Beauty of the Beast is great! One of my favorites.

I've been listening more to their Phantom and I've gotten used to it...I almost like it a little...but I've noticed that the live versions are much better than the cd one. It seems that lots of the live ones are better than the cds...Tarja sort of sings better....however odd that sounds.

I don't know many live versions, only the ones that were on the albums, and I'm not too fond of most. I do like the live-version of Sacrament of Wilderness, however.

Question: I've always wondered...What language do Tarja and Marcelo speak with each other? Does he know suomi...do they speak English together lol? I don't think she speaks Spanish very well...so either it's suomi or English lol.
