Well I'm going to see them this Friday - and getting exceedingly concerned about the welfare of my ears.

Ah, have fun *kicks self for not getting hold of ticket in time* A friend of mine went to the Birmingham concert, he said it was absolutely fantastic, he can't remember what they played (and I can't be arsed to search the NW forum for a setlist), but a lot from DPP, Wishmaster, Nemo, Slaying the Dreamer, Wish I Had An Angel and The Siren (he didn't mention Dark Chest... but they play that a lot, so maybe that was in there, too). Apparently the ending of Slaying the Dreamer was done by Marco on his own, Anette sounded pretty good throughout the gig, and things were generally great. Most of the comments I've read on the Nightwish forum have been very positive about all the UK gigs so far, so maybe you'll be lucky, Tosca I admit, the version of Ever Dream from that Australian gig is pretty dire, but when she's not squeaking, I find Anette's voice more tolerable than I used to. It's not ideal, and I do find myself pondering what the new material would sound like with other singers, which I didn't do nearly as much of with the old material, and I STILL think they should have hired Hansi Kursch, but if Anette does end up sticking around, and doesn't get any worse, I can live with it. Though I do miss the "old era".

OK, the first thing to mention is that Tuomas undid his shirt. Therefore the whole evening was wonderous and spectacular and joyous and all kinds of shiny. Er, other than that..... Actually, it was pretty damn good. Emppu charged around the stage like a kangaroo on crack - literally at one point; I think he was trying to get the audience to jump around and decided to show us by means of demonstration, jumping jack style. Anyway, he's adorable, bless him. Marco and the beard were predictably awesome, and telling corny jokes as ever. I, er, didn't pay too much attention to Anette - although, this wasn't all my fault; I couldn't see her that well as I'd kinda navigated to the area in front of the keyboards. But she was chirpy and etc, although she did look rather peculiar. As for the vocals - well, they were certainly tolerable. Not amazing, imho, and her voice might not be exactly to my tastes, but it was powerful and rather jolly, I guess. And she didn't squeak. I only cringed in The Siren, which surprised me, because they played Wishmaster as well. They also had a guest musician during LotW and TI, who played the additional instruments on the CD versions. He was also great - particularly with the funny pipes. Setlist was something like this, although the order is probably squiffy: Bye Bye Beautiful Dark Chest of Wonders Whoever Brings The Night The Siren The Poet and the Pendulum The Islander Last of the Wilds Dead To The World Sahara Nemo ------ENCORE------ 7 Days To The Wolves Wishmaster Wish I Had An Angel

You're lucky. When did Tuomas undo the shirt, which song that is? I notice in the pictures he seems to be doing that every night now, I wonder why. Also, is Emppu really as small as he seems? How do they all seem in person? The same?

Hmm, I think it was in the encore. *g* Perhaps more tickets have been selling since he took it up? Yes, Emppu is tiny. But hyperactive. No idea what they're like in person. *WAIL* If only I'd noticed some NW VIP tickets.... But um, onstage, Marco pulled lots of funny faces, Emppu ran around for almost the entire show, Anette smiled at people and did some rather weird dancing, and Tuomas hammered away on his keyboards and occasionally grinned at the audience and gave them a thumbs up. Is that... the same?

Yeah, I guess that's the same, thanks lol. I forgot to ask...what's the sound quality like? I can't tell from watching youtube videos. Do they sound good? Can you hear the instruments, or is it just a lot of loud noise?

Well, there was a lot of noise, but then, that's kinda common at concerts. LOL, yes, you could hear the instruments well. People were kind enough to shut up when the songs actually started.

I've been thinking about something weird I read in the Nightwish book. It mentions that Alexi Laiho got a 6.66 off of a breathalyzer. I just don't see how that is possible. He must have done it wrong, or maybe the tests are different in different countries. As far as I know something above 0.40 is fatal. I know they're drunks, but that is just too much, it's unbelievable.
Also, I still don't know if there is a problem with the chorus of Ever Dream. The lyrics, that is. It always sounds like it is grammatically incorrect, but I'm not sure. I'm not saying it should be changed, I think it sounds fine as it is, but it still sounds kind of wrong.

Well, about the breathalyzer: it must be different in different countries, because here, you have about 0,5 after one beer or two glasses of whine already, and it gets toxic at about 3,0.
About the chorus; yeah, it sounds kind of weird, grammatically, but maybe it's something you can say that way in Finnish, or he just wanted to express a particular thing.

I thought it was a nice video, although I always thought the video would be a little more realistic. A normal island, I mean. A tropical paradise lol. I suppose it is meant to be artistic. It's interesting though. I love how Tuomas has nothing to do in it, he just sits there. ;D

That's a nice vid, and a nice song.
It seems as though NW has finally realised the limits of A.'s voice and is arranging the new songs according to it. Let's face it, DPP was totally out of her league.
*Edit* I think I'm about to get beaten up on YouTube for actually saying so. What fun!

Hahaha there seem to be two 'teams' on Youtube - the Annette crew and the Tarja crew. They seem to stay on their designated videos, and any who venture forth are torn apart. That is an awesome video, and a fabulous song. I rather like Annette when she's just adding backing vocals. >.> Also, that look on Tuomas' face toward the end of the video - I wonder whether he's thinking 'damn, why did I just write myself a song in which all I had to do was sit around?' or 'woo, I should do this more often, then I could be chillin while the others get exhausted'

There's also the third group of them, the idiots who comment only to annoy, saying such thing as "this band sucks, ololololol," whilst the saner amongst us wonder why they were watching the video in the first place. And Tuomas must have lost his battery powered keyboard.
