That's it xD it depends on the movies or series but they always die/burn/turn to stone in sunlight . *been stalking this conversation for awhile.* That's not always true, sometimes sunlight just irritates them or they simply don't like it because they are nocturnal creatures. Owls don't burn in sunshine but they certainly don't enjoy being awake during the day. In any case, sparkly vampire suck. Have any of you seen the parody movie "Vampires Suck"? It's hysterical! They mostly make fun of Twilight the entire time but they add a few tributes in to other shows such as buffy the vampire slayer. *goes back to stalking*

no no no Twilight IS BETTER than House of Night. House of Night is horrible. It makes Twilight look great. I like the plot idea of House of Night, but it written like bad fanfiction with elementary school grammar. I got through several of the books but I've finally given up on it. Her writing refuses to improve. She's just slapping crap together to make money. Amelia Atwater-Rhodes has written many stand-alone novels about vampires. Her first book was published when she was only 14 years old. Each book has a different set of characters and story, but they are all set in the same universe so its not unusual for a major character in one book to suddenly appear as a minor character in another book and vice-versa. She also has a shape-shifter series called The Kiesha'ra which is just as brilliant as her vampire novels. This series does happen chronologically from book to book but she uses a different character's point of view for each book. The shape-shifters inhabit the same universe as her vampires, but while the two species do cross paths on occasion it's usually not a major plot point. Her universe also includes several other species such as the immortal Triste witches and the mortal Macht witches. www.randomhouse.com/features/atwaterrhodes/bookshelf.htmI think the best way to read all the books is in the order she wrote them because naturally that effects her writing even if they are mostly stand-alone vampire novels of the same universe. The order that she wrote them is: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amelia_Atwater-Rhodes#PublicationsThe compilations are the same books just gathered together in one big volume. I love her writing because it is so original and beautiful. Her books don't get the attention they deserve. Amelia's books never feel like they were written to make money. She writes them because she has a passion for this created universe of hers and it is a vivid amazing world that she describes.

True Blood, Interview, and Vampire Diaries are all great shows. I was also thinking about books too. There's plenty of vampire novels and series that are fantastic such as Amelia Atwater-Rhodes books or Cirque du Freak. But at the same time there's so many bad, uncreative series too such as House of Night. Twilight is actually better than House of Night and that's saying something.

elspeth, you summed it up very well. That's exactly how I feel too. I think Twilight is ok and I can enjoy it, but it is certainly nothing to get excited over. I've read tons of vampire novels etc. before Twilight ever existed and there is nothing new or interesting about Stephanie Meyers' writing and like you said, it's just plain bad at times. I haven't seen the new movie yet, but I plan to in a few weeks. I've heard it's absolute crap from several people already lol, but I'll go see it anyway. ARE YOU SERIOUS? Miranda likes Twilight? ?!!!! I don't understand. Twilight is like for prepubescent girls who haven't read any other vampire novel other than Twilight. I don't see what Miranda would like about it. It just seems like, at her age, silly stuff like this wouldn't interest her because there's better literature out there. I don't know whether to be appalled or amused.

it says quite clearly in the rules: Copying from a previously published work (including musical lyrics) not in the public domain.
So yes, you are not supposed to, but many many people do. But they only copy a very small portion of the song and stick it into their stories somewhere. That's what I mean about being clever about it.
Not being clever and taking a greater risk of being caught doing it, is taking the entire song and posting it there and making it totally obvious you borrowed from copyrighted material. (But even then you might get away with it because it depends on whether someone reports you or not. But the more obvious it is, the greater the risk.)
Basically FF.net and such places have to declare they don't condone plagiarism of copyrighted works because it is against the law. But many of them either don't bother or can't strictly enforce their rules. The way you know what's really allowed and what isn't is by looking at a lot of other peoples' works and seeing what they did and got away with.

So for example, if I wanted to have a character sing, should I incorporate the lyrics in the dialoge hidden within the rest of the paragrpah or in a separate phrase then continue with the paragraph? yeah something like that would be fine. Especially if its your own song and not someone else's. I don't see any problem with that.

... i am truly irritable at the moment. so while writing my fanfic i read the guidelines and rules. they stated something about not being able to put songs in your writing >< i mean i understand why but it still grinds my gears >< so i will most likely end up posting it on here instead of on ff.net Now that depends how you do it. I've stuck a few lines of a song in couple times and I've seen others do it longer. If you're clever about it, you can get it in. They mostly just don't want you posting a whole song (especially if its copyrighted) and nothing else.

I have actually never seen Snow Queen! I have wanted to so many times but never picked it up. I have heard so many people talk about it, it sounds like I really should see it! And I agree it would have been exciting if Miranda had made an appearance as Mab in Camelot! That would have been really cool! I've seen Snow Queen and loved it! I would have fainted in shock and delight if Mab had appeared in Camelot!
