I love Helen too! Yes she was playing Bellatrix. Charles II is amazing...what a cast...Rupert Graves, Rufus Sewell, Helen..... I've actually met Helen...she was with Damian Lewis when I went to meet him after a play he was in...she was ever so beautiful... Anyway, back on-topic (breaking my own rules? Never!!)...I think there's some good points being made here on acting. The thing is with Miranda is that she's not CONVENTIONALLY beautiful, unlike the boring, vacuous beauty of CZJ et al. Also, she's a chameleon, so she can look however she wants for a role without making a big song and dance about it. The most ridiculous thing in this day and age is when actresses are applauded for making themselves 'ugly'...ie Charlize in Monster, Nicole in The Hours...I mean, come on???!!! Acting is not a profession of glamour and looking amazing, it's about BECOMING another person. That isn't important in Hollywood circles anymore, which is very sad. It's all about the 'stars'.. That's slightly off the points you're making...but I agree that the best person, looks-wise and acting-wise, should be cast. People come in all shapes and sizes and if acting is meant to reflect reality then we should be seeing all these shapes and sizes. I mean, don't even get me started on Hollyoaks...RAGGGHHHHHH....how is one town full of so many vacant talentless blonde beautiful people? ? xxxxxxx

Hiya everyone. As I consider myself as bisexual, yes I'm attracted by Miranda. But I'm not sure of being sexually attracted by her, I mean, I don't imagine naughty things when I see a beautiful picture of her (I am not a man after all ), and I don't want to see her naked or someting like that. I'm rather attracted by her in a sensual and emotive way. I don't know if it makes sense for you. I'm raher weird. Sensual because yes, she's gorgeous, and emotive because some characters she plays touch me. In real life I'm not often attracted by sexy or hot women, I am attracted by women who can touch me (by their charisma, their vulnerability, or someting else). In Miranda I like this mix of candour and august maturity we can see in her features. I admire her as a talentuous actress, and I like her delicate beauty. I find her particulary attractive as Madame Giry, Vanessa Bell and Spider's mother. I like men too bt I do prefer women. They're more subbtle, more emotional, more.... everything

True, women are indeed more emotional. And she is lovely as Mme Giry (haven't seen Spider or The Hours). Oddly enough, though, I prefer to hang around with my male friends. Possibly because they are all as crazy as me. Also they don't mind me drooling over Miranda so much.

yes, I know what you mean about "crazy men friends" lol. Men are very funny friends. They're very good for fun because they're not affraid to enjoy themselves and to make fools of themselves sometimes. That's why I've got lots of male friends. But for a friendship based on complicity I prefer a female friend. As a lover also.

This whole concept of male/female is very complex - but interesting.
I think that like it or not, we are subject to the idea of stereotypes.....even as a boring male, I can see that say, Johnny Depp is very good-looking, and Danny DeVito - God bless him - ain't. Of course, that doesn't stop him being a bloody good actor and human being, and from earning a few honest bucks along the way.
Also, being able to recognise this, certainly, does not make me gay......
Of course, of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and some of you ladies/gents out there may actually think that Danny is better looking than Johnny. More power to you ! But I think you'll be in a minority.........
Woman have a power that far surpasses that of any hetro man, and they always have had. This is the ability to dress up or dress down as it were. A female can wander about all day in say, jeans and a tee-shirt and trainers. Come the evening - WHAM! A beautiful ballgown, or a LBD, long gloves, high heels, jewellry, sexy underwear - she's from another world ! Think of the difference even her choice of footwear can make - long high - heeled boots instead of trainers with the same jeans ! Incredible !
Men simply cannot compete. What can we do ? Put on a dinner suit and resemble a penguin ? Very sexy ! NOT! I think many men have always envied women this power - hence cross-dressing ? Don't worry, I'm not going down that road.....only to say that I do not partake. Just a theory.....
And just think of the great villainesses in TV and film - like Catwoman ! They don't rely on brute strength like their male counterparts - they're too intelligent. They use their beauty ang guile........
No doubt about it - women are hot, hot, hot!!!!!!!!!!
Er, I'm not complaining, by the way.........

I'm sure I speak for most (possibly all) of the females of this board when I say I'm flattered, Mick. I suppose there is a lot of gender stereotyping in reality. Even as a girl myself, it's my opinion that girls are more bitchy. Could just be my personal experience, and why 90% of my close friends are male. And men talk about sex a lot more. This is a theory that was developed by observing the same 90% of my friends. Could just be that they're pervs, though, LOL.
