Odd video. Doesn't match my 'mental image' of the song. Seems... oddly slow with the pace of the song? Hard to say. I like the camera spinning around her. I imagine a lot of spinning in my head, somehow. Maybe it's the 'time falls away' line. Also, for some reason, the opening bars of this song remind me strongly of a HIM song. I'm not sure which one. Maybe this, but i'm not sure. I should listen to their albums again and figure out which one it is that has bars like that.

I've watched it again. I can't say it's my favourite music video ever, I'd say of the two, I preferred "I Walk Alone" to "Die Alive". Same with the song. IWA has grown on me with time, whereas DA has done the opposite.
I think for her next single, I'd like to see one of the ballads from the album- "Minor Heaven", maybe. There are very few tracks on the album that I don't think would work as singles (the intros aside, obviously) except for maybe Oasis and Calling Grace, but I think the ballads are slightly more representative of the album as a whole, and I think they're the strongest points. But maybe that's just me.
As long as she doesn't release "Poison" as a single, I'm good, LOL.

The fewer Poison covers released, the better. Poor Alice must be spinning in his grave.
(Never thought I'd use "Alice" and "his" in the same sentence again. Not since that...incident...in Brazil anyway).
Calling Grace I can see being in the soundtrack for a film, or something. The other one that stands out to me, My Little Phoenix, may need a tiny bit of fiddling with before being released as a single. It's a good song when you listen to the album throughout, but as a stand alone single it just needs a bit more kick.

Yeah, one of the ballads would be great as a release. I rather like IWA and DA as songs, but yeah, the music video for the latter doesn't fit my head, as I said above. Poison is great, but yeah, possibly not as a single. Also Alice isn't in any sort of grave . He's only 60. I love My Little Phoenix, but it's a bit of a mirror of DA in a way, as they are together on the album. One of the slower rock ballads would be a great representation of the album as a whole. They should totally use it as a soundtrack song. Btw, does anyone else have the deluxe edition of MWS? I actually think I like the organ bonus of IWA better than the one released.

I would say Minor Heaven, definitely. I love that song. My Little Phoenix might be ok too.

I actually think I like the organ bonus of IWA better than the one released. Nah, I have the UK edition- has a bonus track called "The Seer", and the tracks are in a funny order. I prefer the artist version of IWA, too, I quite like My Little Phoenix, but I see what you mean, Minky, I think it needs a bit more kick to be released as a single. I still think one of the ballads would be a better choice. Aside from the idea that Alice Cooper has a grave to spin in, LOL, I agree with Minky, the covers of Poison that I have heard have all been rather lacking compared to the greatness of the original. Anyway, back to Tarja- apparently, according to her latest blog entry, My Winter Storm has gone platinum in Finland *applauds her* and she has decided to begin work on planning her next album.

The shock of another cover would kill him.
Then he would immediately start rotating at record speeds.

One of the Warm up Concerts in Finland was filmed in decent quality and everything, there's a load of links to it from Tarja's official webpage, but since I can't be arsed to go back there for now, content yourselves with the first one: uk.youtube.com/watch?v=x6ZdHgveY1Y

The brilliance.
Oh - and that concert's version of Passion and the Opera? One of the bazillion reasons that cry out against the Evil One. She simply could never do that, no matter how much she "practices". But this argument has been made many times, it is not going to change anything, and I a merely repeating it out of stubborness.

Ah, you just gave me another reason to go watch it all again. And agreed, Incapa, I am in love with this version of PatO. It was one of the highlights of the setlist, imho.

Have any of you watched the version of Phantom of the Opera? She's performing with her brother. Unfortunately, he has a soft, melodic sort of voice, and he gets all but drowned out by the music and his sister. That's kind of awkward, because even if she realises that, what's she likely to do about it -- but I'd really lover to see her perform that song with someone with a stronger voice.
It's interesting which non-MWS songs she's sung at these concerts. Most of the ones she originally performed with Nightwish are ones that were written by third parties and are likely not copyrighted to Nightwish - except for Passion and the Opera. Interesting that the band 'let her have' that one. I wonder how they choose, and whether she'll get to play more Nightwish songs in future concerts.

Her brother's voice is alright, but not great. It always sounds the same. I also found it a little creepy that siblings are singing that song to each other. Just like in Poison when he does the little backing vocals. Creepy. I'm a little tone deaf, but if you watch a lot of the Phantom videos from different shows, she doesn't always reach that note at the end. I can't blame her, I guess.
I'm not sure how the Nightwish song selection works. I don't know if she needs their permission or not since it is live and not a recording. They don't do Passion & the Opera anymore; but they still do Nemo, so I would assume she doesn't need permission, or maybe they just don't mind.

Having spent a sad amount of time over at the Nightwish forum, where this issue has been discussed extensively several times, I have grasped enough of copyright law to know that she only needs Nightwish's permission to perform "Nemo" and "Passion and the Opera" if she wants to record it for a CD or DVD. Since this online concert is free, and includes Passion and the Opera, I conclude that she doesn't need permission provided she doesn't intend to make money from the recordings. From Nightwish's point of view, I know they've said they don't intend to perform Passion and th Opera, or Phantom anymore, as these songs were too associated with Tarja's vocals, obviously they're still performing Nemo. I recall reading an interview not so long before Christmas with Ewo (NW manager) who wasn't even aware until that point that she was performing the songs. He didn't seem to care that much, TBH. As for Walking in the Air, the version she performed was the version from her own Xmas album, released the previous Xmas, rather than Nightwish's. I believe she's said she intends to keep playing a couple of old Nightwish songs at her concerts, though whether or not she intends to vary the songs, I don't know. Hmmm, I thought Toni had a nice enough voice, but I did prefer it with Marco's, yes.

Indeed, just as NW can continue to use her backing vocals in their concerts.
