I hate her eyes. She always has those sad eyes, they bother me. Cute little dress though.

She hasn't learnt any new facial expressions then! I'm sorry, I really didn't like Emmy in The Phantom of the Opera.

TOTALLY AGREE. SHE WAS QUITE "INSIPID" FOR SUCH A MAGNIFICENT LEADING ROLE. MIRANDA ECLIPSED HER COMPETELY, BY THE WAY ,EVEN WITH HER FEW SCENES.

That is true. But if Emmy Rossum weren't playing Christine, who would? All the good ones are too old! I liked her in PotO... Too bad Sarah Brightman was too old for the role

Ah well, considering Christine isn't really one of the brighter characters, I'd say she was adequately cast.
"Angel of Music" my backside.

Too bad Sarah Brightman was too old for the role I know. I was kind of hoping she'd be cast as Carlotta though. She was about the right age and she could sing the part.

I wanted Antonio Banderas as the phantom lol. He's sexy, the age I want the phantom to be, and can sing a little. I wish they had made butler a little uglier, he wasn't revolting enough.

I totally agree with both of you! Antonio would be the best Phanton and Sarah Brightman could actually have sung the role of Carlotta, which Minnie Driver couldn't.

They should definately have made him uglier. He just had mild sunburn. It was as if Madame Giry let him out to play one afternoon and forgot to give him sunscreen! I can't imagine Antonio Banderas as Phantom, but there is a clip on youtube of him singing the title song with Sarah Brightman. You're right about him being a more appropriate age, but with Emmy Rossum being so young (I believe she was about 16 when it was made) I think it was right that they got a younger Phantom.

I actually didn't like most of the people in the film. And I certainly don't support the Phantom being so young, because he is supposed to be a lot older than Christine.

I can't see Antonio Banderas as Erik, but I agree that an older actor would've been better seeing as, according to the book, if I remember correctly, Erik is in his fifties. Not that I mind Gerard Butler and I think he really did a good job. Of course, my favorite Erik is still and will always be Michael Crawford.

My choices are so so french I will go for french singer Garou for the role of the phantom...he was amazing at "notre dame de Paris" & gorgeous talented Patricia Kaas asChristine both got a full vocal register, Patricia is a fantastic contralto, it would have been a risky amazingly enticing proposal for the play. with a great make up job we can got the exact effect to fit ages & styles.
the point is weird in the film MIRANDA aka Madame GYRY was supposed to be almost the same age of " the phantom" but he looks quite younger, Miranda s wardbrobe & make up make her look way older...than Erik, antoinette and the phantom must got the same age as lady giry remarks.
anyway in the 80 s I guess Miranda could have been a delicious Christine with all her charm & soft melodic voice an interesting proposal sadly we will never see.
