Well, a little late I know. I went to see 'Grasses' with my lovely friend on Friday night. After reading the reviews and getting an idea of what we were in store for, we thought best just go with an open mind. I mean REALLY open. And prehaps a bit of a laugh at Shawn's expense, ie HUGE ego. And bonus we'd see Miranda perform too.
So we waited outside for a couple of hours...didn't see anyone arrive. Then waited inside. Went to the loo twice. (too much detail?!) Fineally went up the many stairs to line up, ready for them to allow us to take our seats. There were two blokes in front us us. When we got into the theatre what struck us was our intimate it was, seats so close to the stage. (We were at closest about 12 feet/3 meters away from the actors) The front rows were all reserved, so we sat in the second row. Andre Gregory was there too, in the front row.
Wallace came out first and did his piece. There were short films of Cerise playing also at this point. Then Miranda came out. I tapped my friend with my foot. I was really excited to see her fineally, really sureal. Still can't believe it. She was in the first part and the third part only. First part hair was up, but it looked better later when it was down, loose and curly. She had body glitter all over her legs, and bare feet. The most amazing skin.
Her performace was great, of course. The others were fantastic too. The charactor Rose, didn't have a big part, but Shawn and Jennifer were fabulous.
Regarding the play itself, I actually really enjoyed it. I have been thinking about it over the last few days trying to piece it together. It is quite complex, took many different angles that all meet somehow...still working it out! I think the fact that I'm still thinking about it is a good thing, it's not easily forgotten. SO well done Wallace, great play! And instead of him having a big ego, it's more like he's talking the mick out of himself. Brilliant.
