I was watching Merlin the other day. Did anyone notice that in the scene where Mab goes to see Nimue in Avalon that the tree that they are standing by is an apple tree? And in the Bible the devil tempts Eve with an apple? Coincidence? or Purposeful?

I didn't notice that either. But it might have been purposeful, what with the role religion plays in the plot.

I've never really given it much thought, but I think it's probably a coincidence (I somehow thought the tree was there just to avoid having an empty background?). Is there any mention of it in the books, perhaps? On the other hand, it's always good to have yet another thing for the fans to dwell on.

true true. well, i was watching Merlin mute because i could better focus on background and body language (im working on an RP, so im not just doing that to be odd. ) and i noticed that. the scene is in book two (James Mallory of course) and the tree doesn't get a mention. hmm. another thing for the fans to dwell on? like Mab's ring? i think Idath gave that to her. but that wouldn't have worked for the movie. . . . oh well. i want them together so bad.

Oh, well, it's a very interesting observation anyway - who knows what the film-makers had in mind?
As for the ring, I think it's only there as a symbol of her power etc., especially since technically Idath didn't really exist until the novelisation. It's still a gorgeous ring. ))

yes yes. but. how would the red incorperate into it? i mean, she wears blacks and purples and blues. where would a red ring come in?
---------------
and is there anyone else who felt a Mab/Vortigern sex scene was needed?

Not half as much as a Mab/Mordred sex scene.... *is not a MM-holic, noooo, not at all....* Hmmmm, true about the ring, I guess. Well, being red, it could be something to do with fire, but again, the Lord of Fire doesn't come into it except for a brief mention in the novelisation. I think we're just meant to see the ring as a symbol of her power, and not question how she got it... but damn, it's fun...

Thanks, Ali. And, I agree that the ring is a symbol of her power. but, himiko is right, it is fun to question its origins! Then again, I like to question just about anything, so, yay for questioning! ;D

and is there anyone else who felt a Mab/Vortigern sex scene was needed? Just one? I mean... yes, just one?! Seriously now, there could have been more Mab scenes in general (i.e. the one which got cut, at the beginning of the film). Other than that, I guess the mystery of the ring's origins remains, although red does symbolize power, blood, fire (and love, why not?)... So yay for the ring

And in the Bible the devil tempts Eve with an apple? Coincidence? or Purposeful? Avalon was actually famous for its beautiful apples, so it kinda figures they'd show the odd apple tree here and there. But yesh, the reference is still there - although I tend to see it as a femslashy thing, myself... As for the ring (and other extravagent clothing), Miranda said something along the lines of "Well, I think she just likes wearing it all!" But then, that takes all the fun away... MV? MM all the way.

it most certainly takes the fun away from guessing. besides, i always like to think that every teensy detail in a movie is there for a reason.
interesting about the apples. i didn't know that. hmm. . .
femslash? ooo. that would have been good. odd. but good.
MM? yes. i would have rather liked that.
im sooo glad they never showed anything romantic with Merlin and Nimue *blech*. besides, she was more into Mab then anyone else. ;D

At one point I think Miranda said something about the ring symbolizing "blood and power" but I can't remember.
I didn't notice the apple tree, but it could be because of the devil, yes. (oooh, yay, more things to speculate on)
And ditto Tosca on the MV scene issue. ^.^
