Great for Miranda loads of productions with huge quality, despite any critics! October 4, 2007 Source: The Times Tonight's TV David Chater The Life and Times of Vivienne Vyle, BBC Two, 9pm It’s been a good week on television for what stockbrokers call “recovery plays” – shares that have been oversold and are due to bounce back. ITV dramas are leading the recovery with Torn and Rebus, and here Jennifer Saunders is right back on form in a new comedy series co-written with the psychologist Dr Tanya Byron. Saunders plays a diabolical daytime TV host who treats her guests with such cruelty and contempt that one of them finally hits her. A psychologist is brought in to give the show a spurious legitimacy, and he tries to warn her not to mess with dysfunctional people in need of real help. The writing is sharp, the acting is spot on, ;)Miranda Richardson gives a coloratura performance as the show’s producer. It’s a strong buy.
