This is a Wah-Wah fan fiction inspired by the Nickleback song “Far Away”. I do not own these characters, or the basic story line. I do however, own a copy of the DVD (Should of saw my face when I saw it sitting on the shelf at Target: OMG!!)
This is my first posting on this site. I'm not a big talker, but I'm a huge fan of Miranda!! This is the first time I've treid to write a fan fic abiout a movie character, so be kind, please. Oh, and I'm American, which is kinda sad, cause I miss everything, and no one I know seems to know Miranda's work...which is weird if you ask me, cause she's been in some popular American films too!
Anyhoo...here it is....
What was wrong with him? Harry stood, mid the living room, in an empty house , yet again. He’d work on his drinking habits, maybe then Ruby would see fit to come back. Maybe then his son wouldn’t be afraid of him anymore. The horrible things he’d done to them…and he couldn’t remember a bloody thing. Sitting down, head in his hands, Harry was on the verge of tears, when there was a sudden , almost non-existent knocking at the front door. He wasn’t even sure he’d herd it- until it came again. Yes, he was sure this time.
Getting up, he made his way into the front hall. It was Lauren. His heart fell. He could feel it’s presence bumping hard in his chest just at the sight of her.
“Ralph isn’t here,” His tone was broken, he herd it in his ears. Had he been crying, and not even realized it?
Lauren sighed, her eyes holding on just to an itch of impatience she often bore for her ex-husband. “I’m here to see you.”
Harry felt his heart tighten. Might he have a heart attack at these few simple words? They may have no meaning. He nodded, stepping aside so that she could enter. God he loved her perfume. Her shampoo. Just the smell of her. It hadn’t changed, even after all these years.
They went to the living room, and he offered her a seat on the couch. She sat stiffly, weary of her surroundings. She knew he’d remarried. It was embarrassing to have to be there now, with him, with what she had to say. But that was just it. It had to be said.
“Where is everyone?” She asked as he took the easy chair facing her.
“Out,” It was to simple to be true.
There was some silence. Lauren could now feel the tears welling in the corners of her eyes. Of all her alternatives, after everything she’d done these past two years away from her family, and their broken home, here she returned, to beg forgiveness. What had become of her life?
“Harry,” She began, forcing the words best she could. “I’ve come to ask for another chance.”
Barely audible, he’d herd her at a whisper between her lips. He wasn’t to sure he’d even herd anything at all. But as the words sank in, he himself stiffened.
“It’s been to long, I know,” Lauren continued, a little more forceful. “The truth is though, I’ve missed you. I,” Almost begging now, she gave him a hard, honest look. “I still love you. I always have.”
Harry caught his breath for a moment, and then let it out in a deep, long sigh, as if it was the first breath he’d taken since she’d left. Had it been to long? Was this all to little, and to late? What about Ruby?
Who was he kidding. He’d lost Ruby. She wasn’t coming back to him. And sitting there, with Lauren, hearing her say these things, he began to realize what he’s really known all along. He was in love with Lauren, not Ruby. He wanted the family he’d had for fifteen years. He wanted his sons mother at his side again.
“What happened, Lauren?” He asked her. “What did I do wrong?”
“I was confused, Harry,” She was defensive now. “We were fighting all the time, sleeping in separate beds for Gods sake,” Lauren paused, lowering her voice. “I was running away from my problems, when I should of faced them. But I’m willing to try this time. I think, that’s the best we can do. Especially for Ralph.”
“I never wanted you to leave. I never stopped loving you.”
Lauren smiled, but there was sadness in her eyes.
