Well, I suppose we are all a bit biased because Miranda played her. I actually think her Queen of Hearts is quite a parody of the Monarch who whimsically punishes and pardons, more so than the Disney version, which I never saw wholly. I do, however, remember that I was afraid as all Hell of the bits and pieces that I saw that had the Queen in them, because she did not have this funny note. She seemed way more cruel.
But I do not think she is meant to be horrible and cruel, I think she is meant to be childish, spoilt and whimsical. Remember her not-birthday or whatever it is called? Not getting older (very female;) ), but presents nonetheless. I think that actually represents her character very well. She is, in her very inner core, a spoilt kid that never grew up.
Then again there was this TV Show once, where Alice got into Wonderland again and again. And that Queen of Hearts was, from time to time, quite nice, but still very difficult and testy.
What version are you doing the essay on? And what is the exact questioning? I'm only asking because it might trigger some interesting discussion.
