I watched Century again last night...what does everyone think of it?
I love Poliakoff, and Clive Owen, and Miranda (obviously!!)...so you'd think this would be a treat for me...but it leaves me curiously unmoved...
Great story, well-made, well-acted...but there's something a little...cold.. about it for me.
Miranda, I find, is a bit miscast. I mean, don't get me wrong, she's amazing as always...I love her performance...where she talks to herself while whirling in the pink dress, her inappropriate laughing, her rage at Paul when he 'hesitates' over taking her to his home, her 'incorrigable' minxiness...all these are classically wonderful Miranda moments...but I just don't see how much she could express herself in it...the part is sort of straight forward and a bit...ordinary?
Perhaps you all disagree? I'd love to know your thoughts.
Clive Owen, who is a favourite of mine, is again, quite wonderful but stifled...
Quick little tidbit...
I went to see a talk by Patrick Marber (the playwright, author of 'Closer') and he was watching Century, as he'd just cast Clive Owen as Dan in the original production of 'Closer', and he saw Liza Walker in it as Katie (the girl who says she'll testify against Charles Dance) and said 'That's my Alice' and from that film she was cast as Alice. Just an interesting story there for the next time you watch it!!

This is one of the many films of Miranda's I have not yet seen, but am dying to see. I just had to stop and say, I think it is funny how you describe her talking to herself while spinning in a pink dress, laughing inappropiatly, and raging, and then say she is "ordinary". ;D

That made me laugh! Yeah, you're right. Perhaps I get spoilt with so many of her characters being so utterly 'unusual' These are the bits that I really loved though, the bits with the spark...I don't know, I think I just felt detached from the whole film...but please don't get me wrong, I think Miranda is marvellous in what she does...it's the role I have the issues with! xxxxxxxxxx

Glad to have done that ;D Doubt there'd be a script online...and if there is, i have no clue where, I'm afraid.
I would love to discuss it with someone, so let me know if you find it...
