I am interested in the subject of bullying and I realize that girls have been bullies and have been bullied just as boys have. It seems that our school days were the worst of times where bullying occured. Some of the bullies were teachers who had no sense that students needed respect shown to them as well as students respecting teachers. So many of us experienced our school days, especially the early years, as a constant struggle with punishment and humiliation. If you were on the list of students-not-to-be-respected you knew it. Your fellow and sister students sure knew it too, and some of them joined abusive teachers in persecuting the outcasts. How many of us dreaded school, not so much for what we had to learn, but for the way we were treated ?

This is a really interesting topic. I think that female bullying is an example of the most nastiest, poisonous, destructive and yet subtle modes of behaviour. It seems to have an extra viciousness that can fester for a long time, and it is these relentless waves of attacks that can destroy a person's mental and physical well being. It's definitely on the increase as more and more people find that lashing out at others or cruelly undermining them is not as frowned upon in society in the way it should. This could be a direct result of changes in society's behavioural norms as we lose sight of community and take a much more individualistic and selfish approach.

A person who hurts others is very often in pain somehow. It could be anything, trouble at home, trouble with school,friends..or just lack of self confidence.I don't support bullying in any way but you must have in mind that most bullies,in fact, need help.

If any of you see Miranda in the TV series "Dance to the Music of Time," you will see her playing Pamela Flitton who is something of a bully. Pamela has "issues" that rule her life, make her do unto others, many others and often too, and in the end these issues, or obsessions or vices lead to herearly death. We are led to believe taht this is what Pamela wants - to die..... Clearly Pam Flitton does not respect others because she does not respect herself. Pamela needed help, needed "an intervention," which the author never gives her. She was a bully against others and a bully toward herself.

I have seen Dance to the music of time and yes,you could definately say Pamela was a bully. She had issues and took them out on others.

OK victims of bullies - where are you. I read no more bullying stories. Surely bullies have not given up their trade. If they have, lucky us. If not - what's the latest ?

Mostly when I was younger, like 14 and below. Not so much after that. I was very different from the other kids I went to school with at the time. We didn't have the same interests, and they made me feel almost guilty for being an individual. But I stayed the way I was, and eventually I found friends who liked the same things I did. Still, I think the cruelty of those kids from the past really damaged my ability to trust and get close to people. I'm a lot more reserved than I probably would have been otherwise.

Bullies suck!!! I was bullied a lot when I was younger. I sort of fade in the background now, so I don't get bullied anymore, or I say an intelligent response the bully doesn't know what to do with. I used to say "Thank you" when a guy on my bus insulted me and he never did again!
