Right, well, according to an interview with Tarja I just read, the tracklist will be as follows (including her words about the tracks)
“My Winter Storm" in Tarja Turunen’s words:
Boy and the ghost: “This song is an Overture. There are elements in it which will occur later in the album: Orchestra, choir, heavy guitars and ambient sounds. It is starting very slowly but then it is rising in little steps until it reaches an overwhelming finale. I feel a strange connection with the lyrics”
Poison “This classic by Alice Cooper is still played on finnish radios very often. I have never heard it with a female singer but maybe there is already such a version. I found it really tempting to sing this “kinky” text form a female perspective. Besides that I like the song”.
My little Phoenix “When this song was suggested to me, I immediately realized that it was different. The structur of it is really like a Waltz which rarely occurs in rock. It was quite difficult to explain my vision to the musicians and the producer but it worked in the end. Now everybody is thrilled by it.”
I walk alone “When this song was suggested to me right in the beginning I took it enthusiastically. For it bases on a theme from Mozarts “Requiem” it matched perfectly to my identity and personality as a singer. After all I have a background of classical music. There are two versions of it.”
Oasis “This is the only song on the album which I composed alone. The title refers to the picture I wanted to draw in a musical way. It’s about the feeling of freedom, happiness and peace – to the outside and inside. Although the lyrics were creaed in finnish I kept the english title.”
Calling grace “Since the album is pretty dark on it’s way through different emotions, I wanted a relaxing interlude. An acoustic track seemed as a good choice to me. We composed Calling grace in the warm air on Ibiza during a spontanuous Jam-session.”
Damned and divine “Damned and divine” also was created on Ibiza. I was listening to a demo and it totally captured me – usually it takes some time until I find a connection to a song. I added the vocal lines and had the lyrics changed a bit. It sounds dark and sad but still beautiful.”
The reign At first, I saw that song as an atmospheric Intrumental, like a Soundtrack. But then we had the idea to use my voice like an instrument too. We created melodies with my voice. I love the cello played by Martin Tillman.”
Die alive Once again the warm sunshine and the beautiful landscape in the studio in a seperated part of Ibiza were the inspiration. Still it is a fighting song. It’s about the fight for your life and wishes without the use of weapons. Stand up and do something!”
Lost northern star I definitely wanted to have a heavy-song with a strong entry of my classical voice. As a “hommage” to Rammstein. The recording includes 74 tracks just with my vocals. It was a lot of fun but it also took a while until we were able to create interestin harmonies.”
Sing for me “Sing for me was sent to me while we were recording in Ireland. I immediately fell in love with the song because it matches perfectly to my album with all it’s big chior and orchestra arrangements. Besides that I especially like the spooky mood and the wonderful melody”.
Ciaran’s well “Only one song was composed in Ireland, a song we named after a holy spring that was near. In spirit of the beautiful days we spent there. It’s based on it’s strong guitar riffs which was created spontanously in a recording break.”
Minor heaven “I have no exact answer to the question what that title means. I just liked the wonderful melody which immediately reminded me of songs from my classical concerts. That’s why I was glad that my old friend Izumi Kawakatsu accompanied me on the piano. In the end, orchestra and guitars are added.”
Our great divide “I have sung some wonderful ballads during my carrier. When this melody was played to me, I finally found a song in which I can be entiraly free and natural with the music. It started as a lovesong but I can’t say that it will end as one anymore.”

19 days and counting. Which sample does everyone like best? Personally, I think Poison is going to be as hot as hell, Lost Northern Star sounds like it will rock, and Minor Heaven is undoubtedly going to make me cry. But they're all beautiful. Anyone got the single and heard the remixes? o___O Zombie!Tarja....

For the samples it seems like they picked the most boring parts of each song. I can't make any opinions on them. Poison sounds good though.

Well, from what I've listened (why did those samples have to be so short?), I like "Damned and Divine", "Lost Northern Star" (it reminded me of the AFI song in one of your vids, Tosca) and also "Minor Heaven".
I can't wait to hear "Poison" entirely - as all the other songs, for that matter - but what I've heard so far sounds very promising indeed.

Right, well, some of you may have heard My Winter Storm by now, it's been released in Finland, and it's leaked onto t'internet- I'm trying to resist the urge to listen to the full songs until I actually buy the album when it comes out here in the UK, although I confess, I have listened to "Poison"- so I was wondering what everyone's opinion was?

I've only heard a couple of full songs with voiceover. I can't seem to find them online yet, so I'm waiting for them to be on limewire. I desperately want to find Minor Heaven...I've had the sample in my head for days.

HINT: Go to Youtube, type in Tarja Turunen, and then order the results by "Date Added"- most of the voiceover free songs are on there, I believe, although I've refrained from listening to most of them.

Thank you! Well I guess I'll give my little review. Damned and Divine bothered me a little. I like the melody, but the chorus was the same every time. It didn't grow as the song progressed. The other version of it is slightly better, but the chorus problem is still there. Die Alive was nice. I can't really think of a complaint at the moment, but it's not a song I'm hooked on or anything. The problems with Poison for me are these: the verses, and the part before the end. Oasis was kind of nice, I enjoyed the piano melody. The lyrics for Boy and the Ghost are a little stupid to me...some kid wanting a toy, big deal. lol I like the lyrics for Our Great Divide; and it's pretty, but I wanted it to be a bit...more. Sing For Me was quite nice, I like the melody. Regarding the discussion of if it's similar to GLS or Poet...I did get a slight thought of GLS the first time I heard the guitars on the chorus, but then it vanished. I don't really see strong similarities. Again, I wish the song was really big at the end. I had high hopes for My Little Phoenix, but I was a little unsatisfied. I don't like the music in the verses, or should I say the lack of music. The orchestral parts are nice, the melody is nice. The guitar part at almost 3 minutes was a little boring, and annoying lol. The first time I heard the chorus, and even now actually, I hear "nietzsche comes" lol. Lost Northern Star is nice, one of my favorites, but again...the chorus is the same throughout. Calling Grace is forgettable, I've already forgotten it lol. The melody in Minor Heaven is one of my favorites, and it's one of my favorites overall. I like the lyrics, but once again, I wanted her voice to get bigger throughout the song.

I, for one, have firmly decided to purchase this album in a store. A real, living one. Where I can have the CD in my hands and then go and listen to it at once. I only do this very rarely, but this saturday, it shall happen. *is greedy*
