I'll agree. Meryl is facing very stiff competition. And everyone knows Dame Helen is almost guaranteed to win. I don't think she's even competing with Helen, she knows that it'll be unfair to win with DWR against Queen.

I don't actually think they should be in the same category. The films and characters are so different, so it's impossible to compare. I think it should be more like the Golden Globes where there's one category for a musical or comedy and one for drama. Since I have to choose one of them, as much as I love Meryl, I have to support my namesake.

Yup, same here, no matter how much I like Meryl, this time the other actress I like has just done more for this award.

*REVIVE*
okies. in my fangirlness (made up a word) there is one leading-lady i love a teensy itty bitty bit more than our lovely Miranda, and that is Meryl Streep. . .
sure, she is no Queen Mab, BUT she is absolutely my favorite actress ever and has been since I was like. . . . six and saw Sophie's Choice and Death Becomes Her. my favoirte movie ever has to be a tie between She Devil and The Devil Wears Prada. saw The Hours and LOVED IT especially her part. Nicole Kidman just annoys me for some unexplainable reason and I just can't hardly stand Julianne Moore so it's no wonder Meryl and Miranda's part were my favorite. anyways . . . I shall finish my rant now. ;D

Meryl = Goddess and The Devil Wears Prada = Love
I cannot, cannot, CANNOT wait for Mamma Mia! to come out in July. Meryl in a musical, gahhh, it's a dream come true.

Oh god, not Sophie's Choice. I have seen it once, and never want to see it again. I cried for the rest of the day! As for Devil Wears Prada, while watching it, and for the rest of the day, I had these chest pains. It was like anxiety. She gave me chest pains lol.

I can't say I've gotten any chest pains while watching DWP, but if there is any character in the world who can cause anxiety in viewers it would be Miranda Priestly. Sophie's Choice makes me cry too. I've only watched it twice-and there was a year long gap between those two times. It's just not a movie you can watch a lot.

Yep, it's all ABBA songs. I love ABBA, but the thought of Meryl singing ANYTHING makes me extraordinarily happy!

yes yes. ditto. Praire Home Companion was a really bad movie, but i thought her part was gold. (lily taylor too. love her) i thought the whole 'angel of death' thing was REALLY dumb and threw off the entire movie, but what can you do? -- & &

I didn't like Prairie Home Companion either.
Oooh, gorgeous icons. I am absolutely in love with the picture you used. It has got to be the most gorgeous headshot ever.

I feel dumb. lol I always loved Merly's acting, but how did I miss that she can sing too? I've seen a selective portion of her films. Has she done a musical before?

Not a movie one, although I think the TV Movie Alice at the Palace was a musical... But she's sung in a couple of films such as Prairie Home Companion, Death Becomes Her, and Postcards From The Edge. Here's a clip from Postcards: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vbyg0ox1Ywc
