Yes, I agree...although I'm sure the son died as well. The ending seems right though...I wouldn't want to live like that anymore...but I didn't catch how it happened...was it a gun in his hands or what happened?

If I remember correctly...he laced the room with some sort of toxic chemical and they just drifted off and died.

I saw the Prime movie on hbo recently. It didn't have a "happy" ending. I suppose the moral is age differences like that, especially with the older one being a woman with a biological clock ticking, will not work. It was funny sometimes, but I wouldn't really watch it again. I like Uma Thurman though. Cute guy in it too. ;D

I thought I'd post this gorgeous pic I found of Meryl in The Devil Wears Prada:

oh gawd! how much do they
a) want to pump this movie! not only is it not very good by any means but it's no where near any of her greatest work....if they want to obsess over something meaningful that worships her then PLEASE turn to something like Sophie's Choice or Adaptation or something that REMOTELY challenges her extraordinary abilities as an actor! Devil Wears Parada is a mediocre film with little to no real meaning, it not only employed standard actors but the whole notion of the film was a jumped up hollywood flick
b) want to airbrush her.....Meryl is old, her wrinkles are her, she is her wrinkles, airbrushing exterminates these and destroy ones individuality and natural beauty.
sorry i may be suffering from pms but i wanted to have a rant about this film...most likely cos i'm disappointed that Meryl accepted such a role

Sok 'Bee Bee Delicious' I agree on quite a lot of this, but I think that it was a good film. Not my favourite, but good enough for me.

i respectfully disagree. i found there was depth to the character once you got over the primary 'fashion' theme. the fact that she was hurting so much inside which made her act the way she did...or something. i dont know, it makes sence in my head

most likely cos i'm disappointed that Meryl accepted such a role I was surprised that she accepted the role rather than disappointed. It's not the type of film you'd expect to see her in. However, I thought she played the part excellently, she was the highlight of the movie. I actually liked the film. I thought it was really enjoyable.

I disagree as well. The plot may seem somewhat superficial but it really isn't. I see it as a story about the choices you make in life. Miranda puts her career before everything else and as a result her personal life is more or less a disaster. And the whole plot revolves around whether or not Andy is willing to start down that same path.
But the main reason I adore the movie isn't for the plot itself, but for Meryl's performance. She gives such depth to the character that it's startling. You hate her yet you admire her, you feel for her yet you want to wring her neck. Her characterization of Miranda is just such a paradox that it's baffling.

I am going to chime in and say that I liked her performances in Devil Wears Prada, but I didn't like the character development. I found that Andie's (sp) development was disappointing and uninteresting. I think that she just became what I didn't want to see her become. She got sucked into that world which was upsetting. I liked Meryl's performance. I thought she really did give depth to what seemed to be a superficial character in the ads. I found it to be much better than I had anticipated but I was still a little disappointed, but it did create quite a response in me which I always find to be a good thing.
A Meryl movie that I did watch and LOVE!!! was A Prairie Home Companion. I know you might role your eyes at the idea of Lindsay Lohan as I did, but it is a wonderful film. It just has a heart to it and wonderful characters. You can see Robert Altman shining through and winking at you. I loved Garrison Keillor in it too. It just grounded the whole project.

Meryl is nominated for a Golden Globe....let the discussion begin. I didn't see it, but it'd odd that a movie that didn't exactly get outstanding reviews gets her another nomination. Maybe they're giving it to her simply because she's Meryl.

Maybe they're giving it to her simply because she's Meryl. Although the movie wasn't amazing, Meryl was. Maybe it's partly because she's Meryl, but she played the part well. I think Helen Mirren is nominated in the same category, so I want her to win it.

I agree with Helen. Yes, the movie itself didn't get rave reviews, Meryl's performance as Miranda was fantastic. She couldn't have been better and no one could have pulled off the role the way she did. I hope she wins.
