Welcome back!
I can't believe you got to see Ruthie at the Menier. I'm insanely jealous! I wanted to go! I don't have livejournal, can you copy and paste here please? Pretty please? Pretty pretty please with a cherry on top! I've heard bits and pieces about it on the Ruthie forum I go on, but nothing in any great detail. Did you get to ask her a question? Did you meet her? It's not going to be on the radio until 11 December! That's ages away!
How do you solve a problem like Maria? I'm loving it! It's so bad it's good. John Barrowman's great, but the best thing about the show has to be Andrew Lloyd Webber's facial expressions. As far as the contestants go, here goes:
Connie: Love her, but she's coming across as a bit too desperate. I'd love her to win, but I'm not sure she will.
Siobhan: Pretty girl and she's got a nice voice. Got a sneaky suspicion she's going to win. Seems a bit convenient that she was brought into the final 10 at the last minute and then she got to sing with the kids last week.
Aoife: Can't understand what the panel see in her. She's never stood out to me.
I'm undecided on the other two, not sure if I like them or not. I felt a bit sorry for the Romanian girl, if she could talk in an English accent, she would have probably made the final. I love the so long farewell bit at the end. I'm guessing you've been watching it for the lovely Mr Barrowman! What do you think of the show in general?
Yentl's a really good musical, I really enjoyed it, but I remember you mentioning you didn't really like Barbara Striesand, so you might not be so keen. The rest of my top 10 would probably be:
6. Woman in White (although I'd have to see it without Ruthie to make a proper judgement)
7. The King and I: I love the film, it's the one that I'm dying to see on stage.
8. Chicago: Loved the stage show, and I felt the movie was directed well, with a different cast it'd have been amazing. I'd have had Ruthie as Roxie definately and someone else as Velma
9. Getting difficult now, but I'll go for Avenue Q. It's a fun show, not my usual kind of show, I was surprised how much I enjoyed it.
10. I'm going for Wicked. I've never seen it on stage, but I absolutely love the cast recording.
I've got a couple of things to ask your opinion on. Should I see Wicked or Evita in London? I want to see Philip Quast in Evita, but I'm absolutely dying to see Wicked, and I've heard such amazing things about Idina Menzel. You're advice please.
Second thing is, would you recommend Cats? I'm not sure whether I want to see it or not, and the tour's in Glasgow in Nov.
Did you get the chance to see Sunday... before it closed? Have you seen anything worth mentioning lately? I've not, but I might be seeing Guys and Dolls in a few weeks.
