I would put her name on the envelope, then hopefully someone will give it to her representation to pass onto her.
On the letter itself, I'd address it Ms Richardson rather than Miranda. It's just a personal thing, but I think it's a bit more polite, as you don't know her personally. As for what to put in it, I would start by saying who you are and why you are writing to her and after that, say what you would like to say to her.
Good luck.

Good luck! I put Miranda Richardson c/o... then the address...
I hand-wrote mine but there are no rules, do what you feel!

I've wanted to write to her for AGES, but I'm too scared of what she'll think of me!! Isn't that stupid?! I just feel weird because I know she's not really into the whole celebrity thing, so I don't want to gush over how much I love her work if it will make her uncomfortable.
Has anyone ever gotten a note from her? not just an autograph, but an actual note? I'd faint if I ever got one!

You know I'm still not done writing it; I sort of procrastinated the whole time. I started, but I've been putting it off. I don't really have a clear idea of what I'll say. I'll get around to it...eventually. ;D

Well... I procrastinated too. Oddly enough Miranda was not the first person I was thinking to write to.
But writing to actors is often - somehow - child-like and dreamy because in some way we expect some things to happen... But I think that all the people that can be known, really known and cared for by actors are : -people from their family -friends they had even long before they became famous -and people they really care about or in whom they're interested. but for example if you date a celebrity, it would be very awkward to proclaim it everywhere...
But writing to celebs definitely has its good points.
Actually, I watched "Last action hero" - fantastic movie, you have to watch it- it's really fantastic. It's that story about a kid stumbling into a movie-world. This is really great. After re-viewing it for the 100th time I decided to write to Charles Dance (Benedicte) and F. Murray Abraham (John Persevere) because they're so great - but finally didn't . Do watch it if you haven't. Benedicte is such a diabolical character .
