a script I wrote of Stella speaks to Gideon about her son. Continues from a line from the program. They are in the back of the shop where Stella works sitting on the floor.
Stella: Because I lost my child and I split up with my husband. And I'm afraid to go to bed every night. I mean I would of thought that that would be really quite simple.
Gideon: I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you.
Stella: It's alright (sighs and looks over at Gideon). I don't mind talking about him. He was a lovely boy.
Gideon: I am sure he was. Sometimes it's best to talk about it.
Stella: Why is that do you think? (scratches her nose).
Gideon: Helps you to grieve I suppose.
Stella: That's one way of putting it. (looks around the storeroom). I don't often get to talk about him. Bill just seems to go off on one everytime I do. He says they still haven't done anything to prevent it happening again. And he's right they haven't.
Gideon: But they will, I promise you that.
Stella: Don't make a promise you can't stick to.
Gideon: I'm not. I'll help you.
Stella: Why? (curious).
Gideon: Because I understand now.
Stella: A few minutes of me babbling and you think you know me. Typical man (smiles as she brushes off her leggings). I just want everyone to try to come to some sort of closure you know.
Gideon: I know what it's like to lose someone.
Stella: (looks at him) Oh?
Gideon: My wife...
Stella: You never told me this before why tell me now? (whispers and clears her throat).
Gideon: Because I trust you (plainly).
Stella: And before you didn't?
Gideon: Well I hardly knew you.
Stella: And now you think you do. (nods and rolls her eyes). You know nothing about me. Well something but not everything.
Gideon: I just wanted to tell you. So you knew I really did understand.
Stella: Why didn't you trust me?
Gideon: Stella...
Stella: (a long silence) You miss her don't you? (calmly).
Gideon: Yes, and when she was here I didn't treat her as I should.
Stella: How do you mean? (tilts her head).
Gideon: I was unfaithful.
Stella: (shocked, she looks down at her hands) Oh.
Gideon: I'd never do that to any woman again.
Stella: How can they be so sure? (stands up as if upset by what he told her).
Gideon: Stella (stands and brushes his suit off). Did I say something to upset you? (walks over to her and puts his hand on her shoulder).
Stella: I thought you were different.
Gideon: Different how?
Stella: You didn't humiliate women!
Gideon: Stella what is this about?
Stella: I thought maybe there could be something...between us (gestures to them both). But I was stupid for thinking that because you obviously aren't interested...
Gideon: No I am (walks in front of her). Stella...I didn't make a move because you are upset. I didn't want you to think I was taking advantage of that.
Stella: So...you do...like me then?
Gideon: Of course. (moves closer) And I promise I'd never hurt you.
Stella: You wouldn't cheat on me? But...how do I believe that? Hum?
Gideon: You just have to trust me. (embraces her and strokes her dark red hair).
Stella: (sighs deeply and rests her head on his shoulder).
