I am not very good at writing Mab but it's a request lol. so add away, my fellow Manda's.
It was in the time of castles and kings, Mab ruled as a Queen, Queen of the old ways. But she wanted to be so much more then just that, I proper Queen Married to a king. King Vortigern, such a good choice. "I will have what I claim...and what I claim is you're heart" she grinned. She stared at him with a tilted head, her eyes dark as night as she stared upon him.

LOL, thanks for putting this up. (didn't know if Mab was watching him in her crystal or in RL, so I made it in her crystal) ------
Mab watched Vortigern in her crystal. Vortigern intrigued her, but it was not his heart she truly wanted. It was his power as king. But Vortigern was no fool- he would not hand the power of his kingdom to Mab without a fight.
"But if I claim his heart," she thought to herself, smiling slyly, "Then I can make him hand the country over to me himself..."

'tis a truly charming idea! I shall gladly participate!!
---------
She moved her hand over the crystal, and the image of him disappeared - but so did her smile. Vortigern was as cold as her, and in a way even more so, because he had the gory brutality she tried to avoid. He did not crave for love or for hearts to be given away. Yet she knew a pure allegiance of powers would not be strong enough. She would have to plot carefully. She would have to ensnare his mind and bewitch his senses until he no longer knew who he was. But was this not what she was born for? She, the mistress of illusions? Slowly, the smile crept back onto her face.

It would not be easy, but soon enough she would have Vortigern wrapped around her finger and she would once again have total control of Britain. She was sure of it. "Frik," she shouted, turning away from the crystals, her robes billowing around her slender form. The gnome rushed in, sliding to a stop in front of her. "Yes, Madam?" He asked quickly. "Ready my horse. I have some...business to attend to." Frik eyed her curiously but only bowed and with a curt "Of course, Madam," slipped once more from the room.

Mab smirked, her face showing many plans, her eyes playfully skeeming. She looked around tilting her head allowing her black hair to fall around her "I will have you my king...every Queen must have a king somehow!" she grinned. Once her horse was ready and waiting she turned from the room, outside she mounted her horse slowly. She was in no rush, Mab seemed to have all the time in the world, though really she had very little when her powers were fading so fast.

The ride to Vortigern's castle would have been long and arduous for a mere mortal, but Mab and her mount rode it with ease.
As they approached the castle, Mab tossed her hair back from her face, and looked down at her robes to ensure that they were as dazzling and immaculate as they had been when she left the Land of Magic. After all, appearance could count for a great deal, particularly where men were concerned.
Riding towards the gates, she watched with amusement as the gate guards recognised her, and, to the last man, nervously stepped back slightly from the edge of the walls.
"Tell King Vortigern I am here," she ordered one of them imperiously, smiling to herself as the man nodded, bowed, and practically ran from her presence.

Mab's eyes fixed on the other men, they seemed mixed about her, partly scared, partly enchanted. She rode further inside slowly getting off her pure white horse with ease. Once inside the castle she laid eyes on him, the king she planned to seduce, she looked at him before he turned back to face her. "Ah Mab my men told me you were here to see me" he smiled, his eyes observing her.

Mab tilted her head to look at him.
"Indeed" she acknowledged, careful to keep her voice neutral.
Now, how to go about this? She couldn't simply fling herself on Vortigern like some idiotic simpering girl. Aside from the fact that it would make her look like a fool (something she avoided whenever possible), Vortigern wouldn't be fooled by it even remotely. He had spent the last few years paranoid that anyone and everyone was after his throne. Make her plans too obvious, act too fast too soon, and he would see through her plan easily.
"Perhaps we could go somewhere more private?" she suggested coolly, moving her gaze pointedly to the soldiers around them.

[hey, what a great idea? *rushes to join in*]
An expression of brief suspicion crossed Vortigern's face, the old scar above his eyebrow creasing into a fissure deepend by constant use. He was no stranger to the plots formed by those around him - the power hungry, the resentful, the downright stupid. A long life of war had ingrained into his mind the practice of trusting no one, and Mab recognized the distrust with approval; she had expected no less. Guardedly, she kept her face clean of any emotion that might convey her thoughts, and reminded herself of the importance of not rushing into things. Vortigern might be a war-crazed, a-sexual sociopath to the naked eye, but... [and here Mab cast a censorious look at her would-be lover from under her lashes] she didn't think so.
With a calculated motion, Vortigern stood and gestured towards an inconspicuous side room. "Was there something particular you wished to discuss?" He asked gruffly, smoothing his robes in a rather obvious manner. Mab followed him as he approached the door, the suspiciousness she shared with Vortigern causing her gaze to flicker sharply up to his face as he moved his hands over the creases in his robes. And there, just briefly, she saw him glance towards one of the guards as they backed off. A glance that probably contained within it an instruction, a warning at least.
She suspected their private encounter might be more closely supervised than she would have hoped. Well, only a fool would allow himself to be alone with a potentially dangerous woman he barely knew. Mab narrowed her eyes, and followed the King through the tall wooden door.

Mab looked around the room, it was most beautiful, dark red curtains and a hard oak floor. She looked towards a throne that sat in the corner, a throne fit for a king, or a Queen most certainly. She brushed her robes gently walking closer into the room "must I have a reason to visit the good king" she grinned. Vortigern's eyes looked sharp for a moment, wondering what she was planning beneath those dark eyes of hers. He walked closer, no guards around, they were completely alone, the guards were outside the door and would not bother them. "Mab..." he whispered. Mab looked at him almost nervously, he wasen't honestly falling for her this easy, it must be a trap.

Vortigern moved closer to her, but Mab didn't dare react- she couldn't allow herself to be manouvered into Vortigern's trap through impatience. Her suspicions proved correct a moment later, as Vortigern's expression changed back to his usual suspicious and vaguely mocking expression.
"I have no time for your tricks and riddles, Madam," he replied. "Perhaps you've forgotten that there's a war going on? I have a country to lead"
Mab's voice was immediately icy, "And perhaps you've forgotten that I have been waging a war for the past four hundred years. Do not patronise me with your talk of wars and battles and leadership. This country was mine long before you were even born!..." she forced herself to pull back, before she could say "And it will be mine again". Truth it might have been, but it was not the kind of truth that would benefit her plans by being blurted out to Vortigern in a moment of rage.
Vortigern raised an eyebrow, "And yet you find the time to visit my castle. Why?"
Now it was Mab's turn to look mockingly at Vortigern, "What? Don't you trust me?"

(yay! I love this idea!) "No," he replied bluntly. She quirked an eyebrow, not used to such directness. "Madam," he said, "if your war is so important, why are you not waging it?" "I am," she hissed in reply, moving forward. He suddenly realized that if a fight arose, he may not have the advantage. She saw it in his eyes and smirked. "Vortigern, I have better things to do with you than kill you." "Madam," he said, "what are they?" Her smile was anything but amused.

"Well?" He demanded, waiting for an answer.
"I need your assistance if I want to win my people and this land back from the Christians," she stated flatly. "'Besides, if I had wanted to kill you, Vortigern, I could've done it long before now."
"Then why did you come here, Madam?"
"To talk strategy," she snapped impatiently. "What else?" Which, in a sense, was perfectly true.

It occured to Mab that, perhaps the best way to gain Vortigern's trust was through allegiance in warfare - a much more practical idea now that she considered it. Indeed, he had no reason to trust that she, Queen of Air and Darkness, would look for anything other than that in a mortal man, such as himself.
However, the king surprised her, by delivering a contemplating look and murmuring, "Well, then I apologise... I assumed you had something more personal on your mind."
In danger of giving mixed messages, Mab briefly thought over her options, lingering between the paths she could choose to follow, all the while under Vortigern's close scrutiny.

Damn ye, leaving me with dilemmas! ----- Mab paused for a moment. She had spoken the truth- she needed his alliance. But she wanted more than simply his help. She wanted his power. She needed to get close enough to him that he would never suspect her, and she had more chance of that as his lover than she did as simply his ally. On the other hand, this could still be a trap by Vortigern to catch her off guard, to try and discern her motives. Well, two could play that game. She let a cold smile touch her lips, "Why, Vortigern? What would make you think that?"
