Ok...review time...
Wah Wah is a really heartfelt, charming film that is obviously very close to Richard E Grant's heart and a true labour of love for him. This makes the film truthful at all times, and there is real passion and real emotion in it, which is exactly what I hoped for.
It is really shocking at times to see things that obviously happened to the young Richard...such as his mum having sex in a car with his father's best friend while he slept in the back, and the way his dad treated him when under the influence of alcohol...but in all this deep terror and sadness there is so much joy as well. It is a real person's life story, full of dark and light times.
Julie Walters and Emily Watson represent some happy and hilarious times beautifully, they are so likeable and hilariously funny and sweet.
My favourite performances are Miranda and Gabriel Byrne though... Gabriel Byrne manages to repel and make you love him all at the same time. I cared SO MUCH about him...it hurt seeing him acting like an animal with alcohol in him...I wanted him so much to pull through. Again, a REAL, true person.
Miranda...my god...despite her character being selfish and uncaring, she also made you care what happened to her. Some really painful moments in the film were her being rejected by her son or the high class women or her husband. She is like a ball of fire in it. Her physicality is just...astounding....it's so wonderfully weird but so wonderfully true. She truly does light up the screen...I know I always say that...but man, she just does!!
I could go on but I have to go! Argghhh...

Spoiler alert!!!!!
Ok I went to see it today. OMG it was amazing. My first thought on it opening was "what amazing scenery!"
I adored it, especially the character of Ruby (man she was brave to put up with half of that stuff) Also the upper class lady played by Celia Imrie (sp) I don't know why I liked her so much since she was evil, especially to Lauren (Miranda's character)
It was awful (not the actual film, but what happened in it) in some places like when Harry almost shot Ralph and then himself, but then funny in other places.
Miranda was amazing (well what is new there?) and even though she was kinda evil in parts as Fran says you really did care about her. I felt awful for her when she was ignored at the market and then when Ralph ran off and she retuned to the house looking for him and when Harry said something like "have you looked in Peru" it was just......

Spider is quite complicated though. I've watched it a few times and I'm still not sure I understand it completely. I'm going to see Wah Wah with a friend. I'm sure it'll be ok, because the first thing she said to me after Harry Potter was "the woman that played Rita Skeeter was so great!"

pat your friend on the shoulder from me. most of my friends dislike GoF, but liked Rita, aka Miranda. and well, I wouldn't have understood Spider either if I hadn't 1) watched the comment 2) had Forgotten's mother explain it to me.
