(i thought i should put this under Television, but i wasn't sure really) okay. i have often wonder what Mab would be like in the year 2007 and i have some things for you gals to ponder. 1. Would she change her appearance to fit into modern society? a) How much? b) What changes would she make? 2. Where would she live? 3. What would her last name be? 4. What do you think she would choose as an occupation? 5. Do you think her and Idath would be together? 6. How do you think she would view James Mallory's books and Hallmarks telling of her story? 7. Would she still have her magic and practice it often? 8. Would she choose to live in the Land of Magic, or would she come out of her cave and live among us? 9. Would Frik have come back to her? And of course. . . 10. Would her staying alive up until this point have changed the modern society we have today? Have fun with them (you don't have to answer them all if you don't want to. ) ;D -------------- oh no! two and eight are pretty much the same. oops. just answer one of the two then.

Hmmmm, well, I shall give this a go:
1) I doubt she would change it that much. She looks fairly out of place in "Merlin", too, amongst the normal mortals of her time period. Of course, it's possible she might have changed her appearance or clothing style due to personal preference by that time, but I don't imagine she'd do it just to fit in.
a) Not much, or at least not neccessarily at all, if that makes any sense. b) Well, as I've said above, not neccessarily any changes at all, though I suppose she might get a bit bored of wearing the same outfits for 1500 years, she might vary those a bit.
2) In the Land of Magic, provided it was still there. She never shows any particular longing to live in the mortal world, the only time in the film she ever spends long periods there is when she's training Mordred up to be her champion, and even them she can't help but retreat back into the Land of Magic every so often. If it no longer existed, however, Mab seems to be resourceful enough, no doubt she'd find somewhere. Perhaps seek out some pagans, or sympathisers.
3) Last name? She probably wouldn't bother with one. This is all very dependant on the answers to questions 7 and 10, to my mind. If she still has her kingdom, and her powers, I really have my doubts that she would bother trying to affect a human persona, she never bothered in Merlin unless it suited her purpose, and even then she usually simply disguised herself as another character. If she ever needed to pass herself off as a human and use a last name, it'd probably change as neccessary, and she'd likely discard it fairly soon. She's Queen Mab, she needs no other identity.
4) Again, tied into question 7. I don't think she would choose an occupation (beyond the obvious Queen of the Old Ways) unless she absolutely had to, and once again, I'd guess she'd be willing to change it as neccessary. If she HAD to have some sort of occupation, I'd guess something to do with History- living through it all, likely she'd be pretty damn knowledgable about it.
5) Not really. Sticking strictly to the books, and not Jim, however much I would like to, she and Idath hadn't been lovers since some time before the start of the film, and by the end of the books, they were on decidedly bad terms, particularly on Mab's part. Of course, that could have changed over 1500 years, but I can't see them as "together", maybe just as occasional lovers, perhaps?
And now, I fear, I must leave it for now, I have a lecture starting in about 15 minutes. I shall answer the rest later.

I see your points. I doubt Mab would want anything to do with the mortals and their relm. BUT, if magic were to die out and she became bored (add in 1500 years of extreme pondering). . . maybe she might come round. I would assume she might want to try for a higher political position so as to have more control on the people. Then again, that being said, it might have to do with question ten and whether or not society would change because of her longer life. If, that is, she is truly dead. Was Mab a figment of the imagination? Or did she infact exist only to be made alive through ledgend?

*returns to finish her questions*
6) Probably in a "Screw you, Merlin, they still remember me" type way. Followed by irritation at being made the villain, and a desperate wish that they'd hired a better author to write the books.
7) Well, that depends on how she comes to still be alive. Presumably, if there are still pagans believing in her, then she will have some magic, though whether she would be as powerful as she once was is debatable, probably unlikely. If she had any magic, I doubt she'd see any need to blend in with humans, either, so no last names, jobs etc. unless she needed to do so temporarily for some reasons. But if Mab has any magic, then she will almost certainly use it as often as possible- even if it's just for zipping around her kingdom quicker. Magic is part of her, and she is it's queen, of course she would use it, given the oppurtunity.
8) See my answer to Question 3. Almost certainly in the Land of Magic. Possibly coming out into the mortal world, but not to live in the mortal world.
9) Doubtful in the extreme. Frik sees her as responsible for the death of the woman he loved. He's not likely to go back to her. And she would be very unlikely to take him back if he tried.
10) This is where it gets very interesting... I see two possible situations- for one, where she is largely forgotten, but still has enough loyal followers to keep her alive and in existence, in which case, I don't believe there would be any huge changes in History, though doubtless Mab would try and recover more followers and gain more power in the meantime. If she succeeded in this, or had more followers right from the start, and wasn't forgotten, then I'd say there probably would be a major change- there would be far more pagans, Christianity would have far less influence, particularly in Britain, perhaps there would be more wizards born, etc. which would obviously mean that there would be magic in the world, which would be a major change, of course.
Overall, I believe that if Mab still did exist today, then it's far more likely that our society would have changed than Mab herself. Even if she got bored, I can't imagine her trying to live amongst humans just for fun- she's a totally different species. Nor can I picture her acting different, changing her appearance, the way she uses her magic, her home, to fit in with the "modern day" to be honest. I can, however, imagine her smashing you against a wall if you tried to suggest it to her. As the books state: "She was what she was, the Queen of the Old Ways, of Air and Darkness, as unchanging as the seas and the stars". Mab in 2007, methinks, would be very like Mab in any other time.

hmm. Well the retaliation against me was expected, on her part, that is. For one thing, she is a goddess, and views mortals as subjects and certainly not as equals. And another, she is so stubborn that no matter how much magic she did wind up with (whether it be a lot or barely any) she certainly wouldn't find it worth her while to adjust. I suppose it would also depend on what time period she was brought back. I mean, I can't imagine Mab whipping out an iPod. I would only expect her motives to be the same. In the "changing our society" point, I can see paganism becoming a more dominant force, especially since religions come and go like trends. Around that same time period, the Catholic Church was divided into it's sub-religions (i.e. Protestants, Lutherans, Christians, Church if England, etc.) so she would either have to focus on Catholicism as a whole, or the strongest group at that time. I don't think that she would create more wizards/witches though. Mab is smart enough to learn from her mistakes. I think after having Merlin and her "champions" of the past fail, she would just take matters into her own hands. I suppose I can't see her changing either. I mean, if she was the same from the dawn of time, up until the middle ages, I bet she wouldn't feel the sudden need for change.
