I saw Helena Bonham Carter's first film - A Room With a View in 1987. She was in good company - Maggie Smith and Judy Dench among others. Helena has a "cheribic" type of look. There is no need to compare favorably or unfavorably with Miranda. Our Queen is Our Queen. Helena Bonham Carter is a talent in her own right and I'm sure Miranda would agree with me.

I hope that those of us who are citizens of Mirandatia don't think that other actresses are in competition with Miranda. We need n't say, "But I prefer Miranda," even if we do. There are so many good actresses on stage and screen and our favorite is Miranda. She is unique and so are the others, including Helena Bonham Carter. We're lucky we have all of them.

Hmmm, I can't say I've ever disliked Helena Bonham Carter in anything I've seen her in. She is a good actress, though occasionally I have quibbles with certain parts of her performance- I thought her voice was a little unclear in her singing role as Mrs Lovett, which isn't great when a huge amount of her part is singing-based. And for Bella, I wondered about the accent, considering she's meant to be aristocratic and upper class, at least as far as the books are concerned.
But yeah, I think she's a good actress, and as Lane said, she was in Merlin, which is a good thing!

I love Helena... and i too am on a helena fansite.
don't shoot me down in flames here but i think that whilst miranda is a better actress in terms of she can completely submerge herself in her character so as to be unrecognisable as herself, helena is cooler. i love miranda and helena equally but for different reasons

Aww, Helena Bonham Carter I have to admit that i love her a half year longer than Miranda xD (but not MORE) she's also a great actress. i've seen more than the half of her films ... i loved her performance in a room with a view, the wings of the dove, novocaine, fight club, mary shelley's frankenstein and - of course - sweeney todd. *__* her acting in harry potter 5 is also really good, although her part is very small ... (i can't say something about her accent - i don't hear such things, besides that, i've watched hp 5 in german xD)

I have loved Helena in all of the movies I have seen her in! I think I've seen her in 11 movies and she was wonderful in all of them. I agree that we shouldn't compare actors, they are all great in their own way, and they are all unique.

I'm with mablove on that. Helena is immediately after Miranda on my list of faves. I've seen SO many of her films (thought not as many as I've seen of Manda's ), and I absolutely loved her in all of them. It's great because, even if her *character* isn't the most loveable, you can still love *Helena* in the role because she turns in such an incredible performance each and every time. Three cheers for HBC! ;D

I have to admit that if it weren't for Helena I would not be the Manda Fan I am today. I Rented Merlin knowing that Helena was in it, and fell in love with Miranda because she rocked that movie to the MAX. Even though I knew her from before in Blackadder and SH I started watching everything I could after Merlin.
But Helena is super cute and I Totally love her 2!
