Countdown time! Merlin's Apprentice comes out on Amazon.com tomorrow! Hopefully, anyway! Now we just have to wait for it to come out in other countries. Like, say, England! Where the bloody legend comes from! Although, I have seen some reviews from people who've seen it, on imdb, and they say its somewhat of a letdown after the first Oh well, Its got Miranda in it, and its Merlin, so I'm sure I'll end up buying it anyway!

That's odd that it's not coming out in England yet, especially when there are so many actors from there in it. Though it's Hallmark channel, do you guys get that out there? I would if I got cable.

Sorry, I probably won't be seeing it or getting it. I don't have Hallmark and I don't have much money to go out and buy it.

Anybody read the first reviews on IMBD ? The first signs are not very encouraging ie they think it's crap! At least one reviewer said that " Miranda Richardson is really starting to look her age " - bloody cheek! There's also talk of the actors - even her - sleepwalking their various roles.
To be fair, I always said that the original was bloody brilliant ( whether you love the character of Merlin or not is irrelevant ) and would be a very, very, tough act to follow.......
Of course, I reserve personal judgement until I've seen it myself, but do feel that the signs ain't good.
It gives me no plesasure to say that I can feel a great big dose of TOLD YOU SO ! coming on. Maybe some things in life ( like TV mini series ) are best simply left for dead........

I honestly don't take reviews on IMDB to heart. They're just random people like you or me who are saying what they think. Their opinions are valid, of course, but they hold no authority over me.
And as for Miranda looking her age? GOOD!!! I LOVE her, I love her belly and her wrinkles and everything about her. I hate that stupid Hollywood ideal that one must be young to be beautiful - I don't personally think that any woman under the age of thirty is anywhere near as lovely as one over that age. I also think that most real people (ie not media sources) would agree.

Amen to that. I could have strangled them for writing that. as for the movie, it seems to suffer from what himiko so wisely calls sequel-itis. sequels are hardly ever good, unless there were plans for several films from the beginning, which ensures that each film has a DECENT PLOT, and is not continued for the sake of continueing.

Of course, of course it goes without saying amongst us guys that she's beautiful - beyond belief..........
And if, say in two thousand years time, somebody on Mars watches Merlin or the Crying Game, she still will be..........

Well, I'm sure it comes as no surprise whatsoever to hear that I still think Mab is the most gorgeous creature on the planet, and Miranda must have been 39/40 when she played her. I completely agree with Rita, people over 30 certainly seem better looking than people under 30, and Miranda is certainly far better looking than the plastic projected Hollywood stereotype. I don't know who came up with the idea that girls who look like rakes, with puffy hair, three tonnes of makeup, tops down to their stomachs and skirts up to their arses are pretty, but whoever it was obviously had some sort of visual impairment. I mean, has anyone glimpsed American Idol recently? For God's sake, I just want to ring in and tell them to eat something! And get a personality!
About Merlin's Apprentice, I still have my doubts. I'm reserving final judgement until I see it, but I have to say, it was always going to be a hard trick to pull off. "Merlin" was based around a world famous legend, and yes, they took some liberties with the storyline (ie. making up Frik, and bringing in Mab-which, lets face it, who's complaining about that? Not me!), but it was still based around the story of Merlin and Arthur and the Round Table. There was no sequel to the legend, no wierd Canadian apprentice called Jack, the legend just ended. I never expected them to make a sequel, simply for that reason- the first had been based round a legend, of which it had reached the end. It would take a hell of a lot to think up and produce a genuiely good sequel. I think if they'd really wanted to make another Merlin film, they would have been better placed doing a prequel about Mab and Frik- they would have had more freedom with the characters, because they invented Frik, and Mab, whilst she existed prior to Merlin, has never been shown as Queen of the Old Ways before, so they would have more leverage with her character, too. If they had read the novelisation, here was plenty of scope for a prequel in that- including some other characters, and a bit about Mab persuading Vortigern to come to Britain. Also, Merlin prequel=lots and lots of Mab, which is always a good thing.

I think the real danger they've got here is that they've hinged the entire story on some random new character that quite possibly no one will care about. If it's going to fall down, that will be where.

Well, even if it is crap, Miranda will be shiny, and we can make screencaps of her, and stare at her, and... well, yes. And we can make Miranda as Bellatrix pictures from them And, um. Miranda. Shiny. Yes.

Ooooooooooooooooooh, shiny... *drools*
Also, if MA is crap, we can think happy thoughts of Mab, and make up our own Mab-filled, Merlin-less sequel! And make MORE shiny pictures! Yay!
