In the old days, Queen Mab had many mortal lovers. None of them captured her attention for very long, but they were fun while it lasted. The problem lay in their tendency to expire after a short period of time. Mortals were simply not made to last, not like the Queen of the Old Ways. But there was one man she met who would never pass away. Arrogant and proud like her as well, who could have guessed their fates would cross, tangle together, and remain trapped, bound in an endless circle for eternity.
When she first met him.....

At a large gathering was where she first set eyes on him. He was tall and handsome, all the women around him. She was dressed in a beautiful light colour, her hair in curls. She sighed to herself, she doubted he would notice her. But as she looked away, he looked at her. He was captivated from that very second. He walked past all the chattering women and bowed. "May I have this dance my lady?" He smiled. She looked around at everyone and then at him. "You may..." She whispered, bowing her own head ever so slightly in response. (hope that was okay )

She was dressed in a lovely periwinkle dress that flowed like air and swished around her legs. She glided over to him, seeming to float rather than walk. Where he was all hard angles, she was soft curves. She had always been the center of attention, but there was something special about being with him. She now had double the envy aimed at her. She smiled slightly at this thought. Idath noticed her smiling and asked, "What thoughts please my lady?"

"Everyone wishes they were me at this moment my Lord." Mab smiled. "It seems you are quite the catch." She let him take her hand and then began to dance slowly. At first they were not close, their bodies far apart. But as soon as the music changed to something soft and slow, he pulled her against him. Part of her was happy about this and part of her wanted to shout at him for daring to move her so close when they had just met.
Idath stroked her back gently. "My Lady feels tense." He whispered into her ear. "I don't normally dance this close on a first meeting." She replied quickly. He looked into her eyes and sighed. "I can let go...I don't wish to offend you." He whispered.
She shook her head and looked around, everyone was watching them. The women wishing it was them and the men wishing they were Idath. "Everyone is staring at us." Mab whispered against his cheek.

He vanished from her side, kissing her hand goodbye. She was mesmerized, spellbound, and now determined to possess him and add him to her collection.
Queen Mab, Lady of Ravens, appeared in her midnight palace under the earth. Cunning schemes and eccentric plans churned in her thoughts as she made her way through crystal-lit hallways. An unearthly glow lit her skin as she entered her inner crystal sanctum.

When they next met it was in Idath's world. He was sat on his dark throne, staring at a portrait on the wall. It was one of himself. He dreamt of the day he'd have one of him and a lady. A lady he had kept. All his women before had been meaningless and always they went away. One person came to his head, that mysterious beauty from before. Mab.
He wanted her for himself, he had to have her. She was meant for him, he just knew it. And in that second a man hurried in, he was short and bold. "My Lord, My Lord..." He said quickly, bowing and scraping. "Get on with it." Idath mumbled as if bored.
"A lady is here to see you..." He stated quickly. He stepped aside and Mab was there. He was frozen, she was as beautiful as he rememberd.

Now how to add him to her collection? she pondered in the darkness of her chamber. He was not like mortal men. Would he be as easy to charm as one of the humans? He seemed quite taken with her, but that didn't mean had yet lost his senses to her spell. The desire to bewitch, dominate, and possess welled up within her. She decided to take the direct approach for now. She would court him and in time he would wish to fulfill all her desires, the perfect mate.
"Lord Idath" Mab acknowledged as she stood proudly within his halls. He gazed at her like she was a vision from a dream. "Mab, Queen of Air and Darkness, Queen of the Old Ways" Idath announced, "To what do I owe the pleasure?" She smiled slowly like a cat as she sauntered over to him.

"Oh...Just thought I'd...Drop by and see how my favourite Lord is doing." She smirked. He looked at her and stood up. "Really? No other reason?" He could tell she was up to something, it was that look in her eyes.
"Well maybe..." Mab smirked. "But that would be telling." Idath looked at her and then circled her. "You are making me dizzy." She muttered. She held her head and hit his arm. "Stop it."
He grinned and stroked his own arm, though it didn't hurt him. "Do you always hit your favourite men?" He grinned. She smiled slightly and went over to his throne sitting down. "This is very nice. I think I'll like it here." She whispered, her deep raspy voice ringing in his ears.
He looked confused and then watched as she faded away. He hated her tricks. Just when he thought it was getting interesting she vanished. He went back to his chair, sat down and closed his eyes.
The next day Mab was sat against a wall, she looked bored. Meanwhile one of her helpers was tending to her child. Mab had a beautiful little girl. She had created her to fill a gap in her life. She knew something was missing. Afterall who would be the next Queen of the old ways? Not that Mab was planning on going anywhere anytime soon.
The little girl unlike Mab had bright Blonde hair, blue eyes and wore a simple pink dress. The little elf woman smiled as she pulled the dress off her and put her into the tub. After a quick wash and play in the bath she was ready.
Her name was Arwa, she walked slowly over to her Mother. At just 4 years of age she was smart like her Mother. And liked to cause a bit of trouble. She climbed onto her Mothers lap with Mab's help and then made a sweet treat appear in front of her. She went to eat it from the air but Mab grabbed it in her hand. "You are so clever my sweetie. You will be a great Queen, here and in the mortal world." She beamed.
The girl pouted and then smiled. "Mummy, I want my sweetie!"

Queen Mab, as well as many other faeries, were infamous for stealing children from the mortal world. They liked to steal human children and put changelings in their place. Humans would attempt to protect their children from kidnapping faeries by placing objects near the infant's bed that were known to ward off faeries such as cold iron.
But Queen Mab could not be kept away by silly human talismans from a child she wished to steal. Faeries viewed humans as toys, novelties, and objects of peculiarity. But faeries were also known to tire of their human toys and eventually abandon them back in the human world.
She had decided to steal a human child on a whim and had left a changeling faery infant in its place. Faeries always saw such trades as equivalent exchange despite the fact that the humans had never agreed to the exchange in the first place.
--
Igraine peered at the child in the cradle. Horrified she whispered, "This is not my child."
"Of course it is madam. That's your girl, you named her Morgan remember?" the servant assured her.
The Duke of Cornwall, Igraine's husband, peered down at the baby. "If that is truly Morgan, then I would say she is also Morgan le fay."
