Anyone else seen this? If so what's the thoughts on it? I had no idea how freaky it would be and I HATE scary films. So when I went in and they advertised The Rite which had me ready to bolt out the room I was going to leave lol. But I decided to stay, and I can safely say I am traumatised. I had to keep averting my eyes Over all though it was a really great film, Im just not the kinda chick that can deal with a psychological thriller. xx

While I do agree that Natalie Portman gave an outstanding performance, I just didn't understand what the hype was all about regarding the movie itself. Yes, it is another remake of a popular film that deserves some attention. However I found the plot quite flat, the choreography lacking charisma, and most of the characters (apart of Portman's "swan queen") under-developed and somewhat predictable. But this is my own personal opinion, which in no way reflects the popular view, nor the views of some of my friends who simply loved it. I do like psychological thrillers. But this one is just not my cup of tea.

I loved the cinematography and a lot of the decisions that the director made. I thought that I would get annoyed with the hand-held feeling that the film had, but I got used to it and it helped put you into the film and witness this girls dramatic spiral down what some may consider an extreme means of method acting. I found the film raw and uncomfortable and some points I wasn't able to look at the screen (I'm a bit squeamish), but overall I enjoyed it as the beautiful nightmare that it was.

Beautiful nightmare is an excellent description of 'The Black Swan' I really liked it. It was freaky, weird and unsettling but what else can you expect from Aronfsky! I thought it was kind of like 'Centre Stage' meets 'Requiem for a Dream'

While I do agree that Natalie Portman gave an outstanding performance, I just didn't understand what the hype was all about regarding the movie itself. Yeah my mate was the same, we actually didn't know it was so popular we just went to see it cos I thought the name was cool. But while she enjoyed it she was more or less in the same boat as you. I found the film raw and uncomfortable and some points I wasn't able to look at the screen (I'm a bit squeamish), but overall I enjoyed it as the beautiful nightmare that it was. LoL, I have whip lash from the speed I kept snapping my neck between the screen and the wall. The sex scenes didn't bother me but the nail file one with Beth was just like - OMFG Im never going to sleep again ;D And the different marks that kept appearing on her body or her finger or toes in one case was gross. I also hated listening to her crack her toes at the start. Not scary at all but cracking bones mega grosses me out. Beautiful nightmare is an excellent description of 'The Black Swan' I really liked it. It was freaky, weird and unsettling but what else can you expect from Aronfsky! I thought it was kind of like 'Centre Stage' meets 'Requiem for a Dream' Oh yeah I quite agree beautiful nightmare is a perfect description. In general I dont do freaky weird and unsettling, I am a proper big woose ;D. And I can't say Im familiar with Afronsky's work but even though Im still traumatised I really want to watch the film again I gots no idea what 'Centre Stage' or 'Requiem for a Dream' is though.

I haven't seen the Black Swan, but I loved Natalie in V For Vendetta and The Other Boleyn Girl! I haven't seen very many of her films, but she was also very good in Closer and I did see Mars Attacks! which was very strange.

I really have to see that movie! Ashley Judd is pretty good too, I really liked her in the Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood!!!! I love that movie! I saw her in another movie but I can't remember the title right now... I remember Morgan Freeman was in it too. Ashley Judd is a good actor!
