Mab told herself she did not care. She told herself it did not matter. But it did. Once in her full powers Idath's daughter could make or break any plans she had with Merlin. Providing Rose could count on the guidance of her father. And Idath had made it very clear that he wanted to raise this girl. Mab sighed almost unnoticeably. She did not feel like taking in any more human tainted persons. Especially not the child of her former lover. She felt even less inclined to try and make another half-mortal like her. But she would not have a potential enemy grow into adulthood without knowing every step this creature took. Though Idath wanted his daughter to like magic Mab trusted that his plans would go wrong, just as he believed that her plans with Merlin would.
Frik lurked in the shadows. If there was one thing that Mab could not criticize it was his lurking-abilities. The queen gave him plenty of work these days. Enough chores to keep him from spying on her precious son. He had never really spoken to the boy. He knew Mab’s wishes, her expectations for Merlin. Amongst so many other things she wanted him to be a great wizard. Raelyn had taught Merlin some magic, but she was not as good at it as Frik was. It would not be long now, he knew, before he would have to teach Merlin. His own humble opinion was that his mistress pinned too much hope on Merlin. But he wouldn’t try telling that to her unless it was truly necessary. His fingers twirled the stone given to him around and around. He swallowed nervously as he crept towards the door. He could distinctly hear Lord Idath’s voice coming from behind it. Avoid when possible: That was Frik’s motto involving the Lord of Death. Unsurprisingly this also was the gnome’s motto involving Death itself. Frik had been sent to the mortal world on an errant and he would not fail. Mab had told him that there was a child of magic here. With such power that the girl instinctively shielded herself from Mab’s scrying magic. Frik stayed put by the door, silently praying the man to leave. For taking on an illusionary human form would not fool Idath. In the meantime, Frik pondered, he might just as well eavesdrop on what was going on inside.

**Yay new person!
After Idath left, Frik donned his handsome human form and sneaked into the room, hiding in the shadows. A young girl sat playing with her dolls on a worn rug near the empty fireplace. Her reddish curls were pulled back from her face. The girl gave a start of surprise as he stepped out of the shadows. As she took in his appearance, the tension drained out of her. Humans are so easy to charm with a fair face. Frik thought smugly. "Good day, Lady Rose." he said and gave her a flamboyant bow. She giggled. "Who are you?" "I am your knight in shining armour. I've brought a present for you." "Really?" she squeaked adorably. Frik produced his rock. Rock was jet black but despite that it sparkled in the sunlight from the windows. Rose's eye was immediately caught by the pretty glitter. She held out her hand for it. Clearly used to being given whatever she desires. Frik concluded as he put the faery queen's gift in her palm. "I must leave you now. But always keep your gift close at hand. It will help you." And before Rose could blink the charming, young stranger was gone.

“Make him eat.” Mab tapped her nails on her hips. Raelyn turned to face her queen. “He refuses. I have told him many times, he doesn’t listen. He is being childish.” “He is of no use to me like this! Growing thinner every day. Staring in front of him when he should be studying.” “That’s teenage boys for you, my queen.” “No, not my son. He wants to fight for me. He knows how important he is. He will restore the Old Ways.” “The problem is not that he is not dedicated to our cause. The problem is he eh wants you to visit him more often.” “I’m busy!” If Mab had had a crystal at hand she would have smashed it, probably against Raelyn’s head. “My queen, he won’t eat until you promise him, face to face, to spend more time with him. He is besotted with you.” Raelyn did not in the least like this situation.
“Mab!” Idath barged in

*feeling the urge to poke someone to continue* Please ignore my last post if that helps to get the story going again. It was a rather silly one after all.

I shall give it a go...
Idath strode in, a furious look on his face. "Not now Idath... I have a bit of a situation..." she said wearily. "Yes you do. How do you explain this" he growled, holding up the crystal she had planted on Rose. She shrugged. "I have no idea what you are talking about" she said innocently. He move so his face was inches from hers. "What have you done Mab?" he said firmly. "Nothing" she said airily, turning away. "Mab..." he said warningily. She ignored him, leaving the room and heading toward the classroom... and Merlin

*sigh* it takes me awhile sometimes to respond. There's nothing wrong with your post.
Merlin hurled a fancy pie at the wall with a furious cry just as Mab walked through the door. She watched the contents splatter, then ooze down the wall next to her. Raising an eyebrow, she looked down at her son. “Merlin, why do you insist on behaving like a child?”
“Because you treat me like one!” he snarled at her.
“You are not my equal, nor will you ever be, hand-wizard.” she taunted him.
Merlin's grip tightened on the wood of the table in front of him until it splintered. His eyes flashed an eerie silver color as he stood to face his arrogant queen-mother. That was when Mab struck. Merlin crumbled to his knees with a groan as her magic hit him in the gut. “You will learn your place, young one.”

msshayxpear, thanks for posting Arwen: sorry, I’m new at this and a bit afraid to mess up. Damn my insecurity. *shakes it off*“That’s a fine champion you have there, Mab.” Idath mocked. “Keep out of this.” she hissed. Merlin tried to rise to his feet, his hand pressed tight to his aching stomach. His breath faltering. “Mother…” He looked pleadingly at Raelyn, he reached out to Mab and fell to the floor. He continued to lie there motionless. After several seconds of staring Mab gestured to Raelyn to check on him. “He passed out, my queen.” Oh, that was just perfect. Mab sighed making a theatrical movement with her arm. Now she would have to wait for him to regain consciousness. Or she could blast him a second time and hope that would wake him. Mab glanced at Idath. She definitely preferred the second option. It had the potential of significantly shortening the time she would have to talk to her ex lover. “You have been to my daughter, haven’t you? Rose won’t stop babbling about that silly gnome of yours.” “Really, Idath, I never took you for an overprotective father. I promised you I would not harm her. Do you honestly believe I would break my word?” Mab went back to ignoring him. She circled around Merlin’s body, deciding that a clear shot at his chest would be best. “No, but you have the ability of twisting your words any which way you like. What have you done, Mab?!”

Mab bent down and tapped her fingers lightly against Merlin's chest. Electric sparks jumped from her fingertips, zapping Merlin's body. His entire body convulsed and jerked. Merlin woke with a yelp.
"What have you done, Mab?!” Idath accused.
"Given her a heart of stone." Mab answered cryptically, lost in her thoughts as she examined Merlin like a fascinating insect who was still sprawled on the floor.
Seeming to come to some unknown decision, Mab nodded and held out her hand to help him up. Merlin hesitated for a moment wondering if she was going to shock him again, but then boldly grasped her hand and allowed her to pull him to his feet.
But once he was on his feet, she immediately put distance between them. He was not forgiven yet.

Merlin was also angry, sure he loved Mab, well he wanted her at least. But sometimes he feared her though most of the time he just wanted to grab her and shake her till every ounce of arrogance left her, he'd never dare try it. He hated Idath as well, he was a typical teenager he wanted to rebel. The only person that he didn't have ill feeling towards was Raelyn though she got on his nerves sometimes. He knew she did not like his feelings about Mab but who was she to decide his feelings. From the conversation taking place he worked out a few things there was a girl called Rose and she wasn't in an entirely different situation from him. According to Mab the girl had been given a heart of stone he shuddered merely guessing what that meant. As Mab put distance between them he shuffled closer he had already forgiven her for shocking him so surely she'd now forgiven him.

Anger of ages coursed through Idath’s veins. Everything that had ever frustrated him, that he had pushed away to his innermost thoughts, was boiling in his mind. And eagerly his mind sought ways to blame Mab for it all. That cruel epitome of female beauty who only had eyes for her pet wizard. “Why have you done this?” Idath bellowed. The power of storms crashed against Mab, yet she would not turn to face him. Idath lurched forward, grabbing her by the neck. He slammed her against the wall. She did not utter a sound, for she was not in the least surprised. By an unfortunate coincidence he had pressed her against the smutch of Merlin’s pie. Whipped cream nestled in her hair. Thus he forcefully reminded her of his presence. The empty, calculative gaze with which she met his eyes angered him even more. “You had no reason to turn against me, nor my daughter. Even less to her. Undo this curse!” “I will not.” His hand tightened around her neck. “For my daughter’s sake.” A hissing sound erupted from her throat. It was a laugh, one he knew Mab only to bestow on those she truly hated. “You have distrusted me before, but now you have outdone yourself. I have my reasons, Idath. My people…” He did not want to hear her political motives. Those he understood all too well. “My gift will save you and your precious daughter much pain and anger.” “I have known you to be cold, Mab. Never this cold.” He spoke softer, but not less self confident. He had hoped she would respect him. Even in the harsh decisions she was forced to make to save her kind. He had wanted his daughter to know Mab, love and help her. It had been too late already. He saw what a terrible mistake he had made in telling Mab of Rose’s existence. “Let go of me,” she said almost sweetly. “you can not harm me in my own kingdom.”

Idath felt a terrifying thrill of dread as he realized his mistake. He had let his anger get the better of him and had manhandled Mab quite roughly. Though it would be impossible to harm her anyway, it was the epitome of rudeness to even touch someone of royal blood without their permission. She was a Queen after all and he had just treated her like a serving wench.
He quickly back off and though she did not strike out at him, the expression on her face was as cool as a serpent and told him he would pay dearly for his impertinence some time in the future. He mentally shivered again.
"Idath, you have clearly forgotten the etiquette of royalty. Although perhaps it is because you didn't start out as King of Anoeth whereas I have always been Queen of the Old Ways. Someone not born to the title often forgets their place." she said with a small mocking sigh.
Idath's face flooded with colour at her mention of his humble beginnings.

Mab smirked quite pleased that her jibe had caused such an affect on the Lord of Winter. Still she remained eerily calm then her eyes flickered to Merlin and she raised an eye brow. Merlin who had shuffled forward moments ago to see if she had forgiven him was watching both Idath and Mab carefully not sure who was going to make the next move yet. His second focus was on Mab's long ebony hair, which although still looked like silk, was still coated in cream as was some of her dress. Merlin regarded Mab's words carefully, so Idath hadn't been born into his title. That was news to him of course he had never truly analysed Idath he knew him as Mab's part time lover and that he didn't like Merlin being her favourite. It was then he realised Mab had been staring at him though her ice was directed at Idath. 'I am going to help my son with his studies,' Mab announced deciding she no longer wanted to continue this conversation with Idath especially with Merlin there. 'and get this mess cleaned off me.' she added with a hiss looking directly at Idath.

Part of Mab relished in the mixed look of horror and shame on Idath’s face. But her satisfaction was covered by an icy fury. There had always been a silent code between them. Clear rules and limitations on how to behave towards one another grown through centuries of seducing and refusing each other. Of getting together and breaking up, of loving each other. He had breached that understanding to the bone in mere seconds. Mab had almost forgotten about Merlin. The wizard’s face was darkened by shadows as he cast vengeful looks at Idath. He would attack Death himself for her. A disgraced Death. An impossible fight none the less. Her annoyingly self-centred son would make a great ruler some day, she would make sure of that. Raelyn, probably the most sensible acting person in the room, was trying everything she could to hold the young wizard from running up to a dumbstruck Idath and avenge Mab.

Mab slid into the cool water and watched the cream on her body slither away into the water. Merlin moved into the water next to her and gently ran cleaning fingers through her hair, removing the evidence of Idath's rage.
Water dripped from stalactites far above. Rocks grown in many different strange formations sprouted from the ground and from the cool pools of water all around. The air was silent except for the very quiet sound of water flowing between the stones.
Water's whisper stayed quietly echoing in the background as Mab moved further into the pool with Merlin watching her closely. Raelyn joined their bath a few minutes later.

Merlin gently touched her back from when Idath had forced her against the wall. Oh she didn't need to be comforted not at all but he wanted to test if she felt pain if she'd feel dependant on him in that way. Perhaps eventually shed a tear? 'Mab,' he whispered, she ignored him at first. Truly she didn't, she was Queen Mab and the likes of Idath did not frighten her. Merlin's destiny was clear and that was what he was to be used for restoring the old ways. No matter Mab was willing to let the boy have his fantasies. She had saw him sleep and saw what he imagined him and her doing it was mediocre compared to most of her experiences apart from his obsessive wish to dominate and comfort her. 'Yes Merlin?' Raelyn cleared her throat to which Merlin did not reply but inwardly begged she'd leave him and Mab alone.
