I was in the docs last night and the first mag i picked up was She mag from May 07- Guest Editor- Miranda Richardson.
This is her little message thingy that the editors do:
'Im delighted to be guest editor of She's green issue, becuase it gives me the opportunity to remind us all of the urgent need to protect our planet. Dont you find that whenever you start talking about saving the envoirment there's an instant feeling of doom and gloom- as though our end is nigh (sandwich boards at the ready!) and quite frankly, that theres little we can do about it? It makes me think of Senne the soothsayer from Up Pompeii! who constantly uttered thoseimmortal words 'Oh woe, woe and thire woe!' Well, yes, climate chaos and envoirmetal damage are huge problems and its easy for us to think we cant really make a differance. But, let me tell you, we absolutely can do something. Simply byeach of us remembering the little thing, everyday, like switching off lights, recycling, walking not driving, and - to all tyou dog owners out there (me included) picking up the poo with a conscience..... you see there are even eco friendly bags out there for that too!
A decade ago, I honestly couldnt tell you what I was throwing in my dustbin, but recently Ive become aware of the threat to our envoirment. And speaking at the I-Count event last November which urged Tony Blair's Goverment to take action on climate change) and then featuring on the Extinct ITV series last year, was heightened my awareness. Quite simply, if we dont act now, we're putting our childrens futures at risk- and surely we want to give them the best possible chance in life.
She is full of great green ideas, turn the Julia Stephenson's great article (page 52) for suggestions on how to limit your domestic laod on the envoirment. Looking for inpiration on a bigger scale? read about the green goddesses who've turned thier eco-concerns into careers, Lastly dont forget to vote for She's Ethical Awards- your chance to reward the people who are making a differacne, hih street fashion retailers to politicians and inventors. We all have a role in ensuring we live in harmony with natural world- and I applaud She's efforts in bringing his home to us.
