Int. Madeline's home-Morning Several months later Madeline is sat in the lounge on a long sofa, sipping orange juice and putting her feet up. Max walks in and beams at her.
Max: Comfy?
Mad: Very. I could do with a top up (shows her half empty glass of juice).
Max: Can't you wait till you've finished it?
Mad: (looks at him playfully). What was that?
Max: I mean...Of course Ma'am.
Mad: That makes me feel so old.
Max: Of course not. You are young and youthful.
Mad: Now you're just trying to kiss up to me aren't you?
Max: Is it working?
Mad: Not really (sighs). Anyway...I need to get up and do something before I go insane.
Max: Just sit down and rest.
Mad: I am hardly a few months gone. I am fine. Stop fussing (slowly starts to stand up)
Max: I thought you wanted me to fuss over you.
Mad: I do. I'm just tired.

Int. Madeline's home-Evening It's months later and Madeline is rushing down the stairs in a blind fury.
Mad: You are sick, you're sick!
Max: Mad...Babe...Hold on.
Mad: Keep away from me. Don't you touch me, don't you dare come a step closer. (turns and faces him dangerously). I get pregnant and you sleep with someone else...You never have cared have you? It's not enough you ruin my life but the life of this unborn child I'm going to give birth to! (shouting)
Max: Mad...It was one stupid stupid mistake.
Mad: (nods and speaks quieter) Too right it was. And you know why...Because your little world is gunna come crashing down around you. I'm leaving you for good. And this baby (gestures to her stomach) Will never know who or where you are. You're just some sperm donar.
Max: That's my kid!
Mad: Was...You're not fit to be a father.
Max: (grabs her arm) I'll take you down and make sure I see them. You can't stop me from seeing my own kid, you have no bloody right!
Mad: (rips her arm out of his grip) Watch me. (turns and begins to walk out of the house).
Max: Madeline! You Bitch! Get back here right now!
Mad: (stares at him and gives him a 'I don't care' look).
Max: Fine. You'll be hearing from me soon, and I'm going to get what's mine.
Mad: (ignores him and gets into her sports car). Bastard (to herself. She lights a cigarette and takes one long puff of it).
Max: (runs out to her and grabs the cigarette roughly from her hand). And no cigarettes. I don't want you harming the baby.
Mad: Whose body is this?
Max: No drink and no cigarettes. You'll regret it if something goes wrong.
Mad: (mutters to herself) Will I.
Max: (storms inside and slams the door)

Int. Tony's house-Morning Six months later she is sat on the sofa, her stomach looks much bigger then the last time we saw her. Tony, her new lover is in the kitchen.
Mad: I hate this...
Tony: Hate what hunny?
Mad: Being stuck here all day.
Tony: Then go for a walk or something.
Mad: Like this...(rolls her eyes) It's supposed to be due in a few days.
Tony: It's not an it. What I mean is it's a he or a she.
Mad: Look...I am tired and I need some aspirin (holds her head).
Tony: (walks over and gives her a glass of water). Just rest...Relax...Many people would enjoy being waited on hand and foot.
Mad: Well that certainly isn't me. I like to be up and about, not stuck here for all eternity.
Tony: Hungry?
Mad: No (looks at her mobile and chucks it beside her). Wont he just give up already?!
Tony: You can't blame him hunny...He just wants to see his kid.
Mad: I don't care what he wants.
Tony: There is no way to stop him Mad. Be realistic...He's the father and he has rights if you like it or not.
Mad: Not (stands up carefully and walks out of the room).
Tony: There is just no getting through to her. (to himself).

Int. Madeline's Mothers house-Daylight Madeline is sitting with her mother who has grown old gracefully. Madeline is drinking a cup of tea and not saying anything. It is obvious she has been like this for quite some time.
Maggie: Madeline...This is silly. You can't keep quiet around me darling. I know something's bothering you.
Mad: It's just...Max.
Maggie: Oh I see.
Mad: The baby isn't even born yet and as soon as it is he wont leave me alone. I know he wont. Not till he gets what he wants.
Maggie: He does have a right to see the baby you know. Don't think I am taking his side (shakes her head) cause you know whole heartedly I was never truly fond of him. But he is the father of your child and that is forever binding.
Mad: When you say it like that it makes it feel like eternity.
Maggie: Till death do us part. Ring a bell?
Mad: Don't do this right now Mum, I have a headache.
Maggie: You just can't face the truth sweetheart, but it's about time you did.
Mad: I don't need a lecture. I need to sort this all out in my head so I can decide on what is best for me and the baby.
Maggie: Now now...This stressing isn't good for the baby is it? (takes her daughters hand). Relax and cross that bridge when it comes to it. Okay?
Mad: Okay. But I am not going to just give up.
Maggie: No ones asking you to. You don't even have to see him you can go through someone else. We'll work it out sweetheart. I promise you.
Mad: Never make promises you can't keep.
Maggie: (sighs and strokes her daughters hair). If this little one is anything like you we'll have one stubborn little girl on our hands.
Mad: Girl?
Maggie: Mothers instincts.
Mad: I certainly don't want them turning out like I did.
Maggie: Is that a dig at me or your husband?
Mad: Ex husband!
Maggie: Finish your tea and put your feet up, I wont have you stressing over this. It's not good for your health.
Mad: Oh here's me thinking you were my mum not a therapist (sarcastically).
Maggie: It's funny how having mood swings has made you even more sarcastic then usual.
Mad: (gives her a look)

Int. Max's Home-Daylight Madeline gets out of her car and walks towards the door. Max is already waiting for her.
Max: I knew you'd be here.
Mad: Oh. And how did you know?
Max: Your mother called me to tell me you were on your way.
Mad: Well I just came to talk to you.
Max: I love you. No matter what you think about me. I do.
Mad: Do you? Well it's abit tough isn't it.
Max: No. It's not tough.
Mad: What?
Max: You should be with me. So stop being silly and come home.
Mad: I have my own home now.
Max: Do you? Well sell it.
Mad: I can't (looks away and bites her bottom lip).
Max: Yes you can (takes her hand).
Mad: I don't want to (walks inside and sits down on the sofa). I need to rest.
Max: How is the baby?
Mad: It's fine.
Max: Gone to all your checkups?
Mad: Yes. Everything's fine.
Max: Good. And how are you?
Mad: Tired. But apart from that...Fine.
Max: I love you.
Mad: No you don't. You only want me for the baby.
Max: Don't be stupid, that isn't true at all.
Mad: Then what is the reason?
Max: Because you're my wife and I love you.
Mad: You do? And how can I trust you?
Max: You just have to try don't you?
Mad: Yes I do. I can try...Doesn't mean it will work.
Max: We can make it work. I know we can.
Mad: (looks at him and sighs) Fine. Me and Tony weren't working out anyway.
Max: Did he leave you?
Mad: No. I kicked him out.
Max: Oh. Sorry, what happend?
Mad: It just wasn't there for me.
Max: What wasn't?
Mad: He wasn't you (looks down).

Max: What?
Mad: He wasn't you...You are the only one for me. It took me a while to realise it, but it's the truth.
Max: I don't deserve you.
Mad: That's right, you don't.
Max: So when's the baby due?
Mad: Not too long to go now. I feel like I need to sit down every five minutes.
Max: Don't worry, everything will be just fine, you'll see.
Mad: You better help when this baby gets here.
Max: I will. You know full well I take care of what's mine.
Mad: But I don't just mean money Max. I am talking about being there for me. And feeding them when they wake up in the night if I am too tired to do so.
Max: Sorry love I don't have the equipment (cheekily).
Mad: Not all women breast feed Max. And anyway you can still feed a baby by bottled milk.
Max: I know I know. I'm just teasing yah.
Mad: Well it's not doing me any good so I suggest you shut up.
Max: Gosh being pregnant has made you irritable.
Mad: No max you do that to me, not the baby. Now if you don't mind (walks towards the stairs). I am going to lay down in my own bed and think about if it's a good idea to forgive you or not.
Max: Right. Well I hope you can forgive me...Stupid to end our marriage over some stupid little tiffs hum?
Mad: Quite. (walks upstairs in silence).
Max: When shall I wake you up?
Mad: I'd advise you not to. I normally swing my arms out and hit people if I am dreaming. (smirks and carries on walking).
Max: (calls up after her) Good to know.
