That is long...I'll have to read all of it when I have more time. That is great, Cara, that you are pagan. I definately in my spiritual/religious explorations feel closest to the Pagans and Wiccans, but my ultimate inability to truly believe in a god/goddess keeps me from being able to truly embrace it.

I'm just plain old Roman Catholic. I went to a Catholic school where it was taught that the pagan ways are "evil and immoral". That's a load of rubbish. I'd love to learn more about those types of religions (even though my family would kill me since they feel the same way). I'd never become someone who followed it (sorry, but I really don't want to be banished from my family-I kind of like them sometimes), but I'm interested in it. It's one of those strange things I'm interested in and that I never forget facts about, just like the Incas, the Romanov dynasty of Russia, Virginia Woolf, and tons more.
Sorry about the rambling. I do that. A lot. ;D

Thanks for the review Cara! I think that the author brought up some great points. It is ashame what early Christianity did to other beliefs. I am a Roman Catholic like Mel (same Catholic school upbringing but I don't remembering being taught that pagans were bad just that Catholics were always right --LOL don't all religions think that), but I have never been too approving of my faith's actions towards other religions. I like my faith because it has some good central themes about love and acceptance (you might never know that just from looking at the crazy examples in history). I try to stick with the basic stuff and then pick and choose my way through other things. I figure that in the end it doesn't really matter because it's all about being a good person and treating others with dignity and respect. Historically I find Roman Catholicism and its origins (especially Judaic origins) fascinating. I like to pull from everywhere and I really want to learn more about Wicca and Pagan religions. Any suggestions for books I can read?
Sorry to rant as well. Mel, you and I do ranting well. Why didn't one of us pick that as a queen name? ;D

Solitas-- Yeah, I do like the idea of "energy" or force, which is part of the reason I really enjoyed this tantric hatha yoga class I took in Kalamazoo. And the idea of a Lord and Lady and all the ceremony kind of turned me off the Wicca stuff in high school, but I really like the Celts and the Druids eventhough they never wrote down anything, so we lost most of it over the years. I like spiritual connections better than religious ones, and I go back and forth between Atheism and Agnosticism. But, I did enjoy that article. Thanks for posting. And honestly, people talk about cancer and disease and christianity on this board, I don't think Paganism is too heavy for it

Dito. And the article is really fabby, even though I noticed many of those things before. I always thought Mab was just waiting somewhere to be remembered. And perhaps ... I mean, Merlin and Frik DID talk about her after the story-telling, so why shouldn't ... Maybe we'll find out in Merlin's apprentice ... *fingers crossed*

Yeah - thank you - it's a superb article, and one which I think all of us Mab/Miranda fans would totally agree with. Maybe Mab's attitude hardened over the years - she had a lot to put up with - but on the universal subject of love, even Ambrosia concedes "You had that ONCE......but no more..." Mab herself says to young Merlin " I am fighting to save my people from extinction " a tough job for anyone - no wonder she was driven to extremes.........It's interesting to read what a certain beautiful, extremely versatile and gifted actress said on the set of Merlin. This is in the back of the script - it's not even on the DVD. She says " She's ( Mab ) not totally wicked. She actually starts off as quite a beneficient character, then she becomes much darker and obsessed. In the end, she uses her power to achieve very negative ends, I'm afraid to say." Well, she should know ! On the comical side - as much as you'd like to - imagine asking Mab out on a date ! I mean, where would you take her? Maybe to a jewellers' - she could consume the diamonds ! I think that we can all agree on one thing - as long as we live we could never, ever, forget her ..............

I'd get in trouble if I bought any books on it. My family steers me away whenever I try and just look at anything that has to do with paganism or witchcraft.

I used to have two copies of the shooting script...
I bought both copies on eBay years ago... I gave one away and sold the other one when I moved. It's pretty interesting... must be on the outlook for another copy.

I remember seeing a copy at a used book store in Austin... going home at the end of the month and will definitely be seeing if it's still there. It was really cool, the script/book was.

I think that there were at least two versions of the script published in England. The one I've got is an ordinary paperback sized tome, published by Channel 4 Books ( on which Merlin was first shown in Britain, April 1999 ) advertised on the back of the old video. The other was a much larger, glossier affair, you know, coffee - table type, and much more expensive - in the Shooting Script Series, I believe. I dunno if either are now available.............What's interesting - apart from the Gudrun Scene and other changes of dialogue and order - is the oft-repeated phrase or slogan " SCENE OMITTED.....SCENE OMITTED......" Presumably, this represents your uncut version. What might have been, eh ? Bloody interesting though innit ? Kind regards, see you......XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
