Seeing as there seem to be a lot of fans of the film "Sweeney Todd" on the board, I wondered if any of you have seen the stage version, with George Hearn and Angela Lansbury. I found it on Youtube after I saw the film a couple of weeks ago, and I really enjoyed it. More lighthearted than the film, I'd say, and the types of voices are, understandably, very different, but still good- not to mention, it contains "The Ballad of Sweeney Todd"! *dances* Anyways, here's the link to the first part, if anyone's interested in seeing it: uk.youtube.com/watch?v=83F_OHrnhgoThe other parts should all be numbers, and you should be able to find the links through this video.

Yeah, after we had seen the movie, my boyfriend searched in YouTube the stage version either and made me watch it. Angela Lansbury is amazingly great!

Himiko: I saw the stage version of Sweeney Todd with Angela Landsbury and George Hearne at the Kennedy Center for the performing arts in Washington in October of 1980. Yes, it was that long ago !!! So I guess I've seen both the original and the best performance ever. I was "there" at the very beginning witnessing murder and cannibalism portrayed on stage and with an excellent cast. Now I have just bougtht the Tim Burton film version with Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp. Bon Appetite !!!

Oooooh, lucky! If the version on Youtube is anything to go by, that must have been quite a show indeed. Morgause: Yes, she was indeed- something about her accent irritated me occasionally, but I loved the more light-hearted side to Mrs Lovett she showed- she was hell of a lot of fun to watch, and her jigs during "A Little Priest" were fun. Personally, I was the most impressed with George Hearn- amazing voice! On the other hand, the girl in this playing Joanna sounded truly, truly terrible in "Green Finch and Linnet Bird", I thought. Far preferred the actress who played her in the film.

I know the last time somebody commented on this topic was almost a year a go, but I just wanted to say that I LOVED both the stage play with Angela Lansbury and George Hearne and Tim Burton's movie version. I saw the Broadway version first, me being a big Angela Lansbury fan, and I loved it. I also loved the movie, and I was so excited to see it because Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman, and Johnny Depp were in it! I adore them both and I try not compare them because they are so unique and different from each other!

I can't believe that I haven't commented on this until today. I never dreamt about being able to see the original production. Youtube is a dream come true! I saw the movie first lol. Angela Lansbury was so cute and funny as Mrs Lovett. I love both versions!

I saw some parts of the stage version on youtube, but not the whole thing yet. Unfortunately, I have a tendency to only like the first versions of things that I hear or watch, and I'm used to the movie version. The stage version is certainly interesting, but the characters are portrayed a little differently from what I'm used to.
