I never got past chapter 4. The whole blond/hugging/Harry being a total Mary-Sue/everybody who's ever died is alive again/ Dumbledore is somehow evil/ "original" character called Spike (original my arse, carbon copy of Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer except with a wand. I like Spike, but still...), probably put me off.

Yeah, that's the kind I don't like. Super crossovers that try combining way too many and then end up messing up all of the characters and storylines really piss me off. Adding lies about "original" characters certainly does not make it any better.

I enjoy crossovers (especially that one Incapa was writing long ago about all of Miranda's characters meeting), but it's got to be believable and they've got to have something in common. Otherwise, it's a waste.

Yes. I think you have to be careful with crossovers. Sometimes making the worlds fit together is too hard. I've only ever written HP/Bewitched (which was hard enough, dealing with the different way both worlds do magic and trying to fit them together) and HP/Losing Chase (which is a Helen Mirren film that you may not have seen. The story was about Petunia and the main chracater of the film, so magic barely entered the equation).

Yeah, crossovers should usually involve similar worlds, but it doesn't really matter, just as long as they have something in common to link them.

In the one fic? >.> <.< o.O *brain explosion* I wouldn't say it was a Merlin X-over so much, she just seemed to be using the character of Mab, as Merlin was the only film to ever link Mab to the Merlin legend. I also wouldn't call it a Merlin X-over, because that would be complete blasphemy against Merlin!

So, it was like a super-semi-x-over?

Yes, basically.

ohhh - don'r remind me of that fic! I'd so love to shred it! some crossovers are fine (the HP/Bewitched one worked really well!), but some are just not meant to be.

Yours before worked really well Incapa. You know, that one with all of Miranda's characters meeting? That one worked because they all had a common link and it was really well done. But some...err...just don't quite work.

Of course, it helps if the worlds are connected in some way. HP, for example, is connected to the world as we understand it, so fandoms that exist in 'our world' can connect to characters within it.
Trying to cross, for example, someone like Queen Elspeth with, say, Captain Barbossa from POTC would be considerably harder.
But damn, that would be kind of cool and hot if someone COULD pull it off. I should NOT give myself ideas, or any more challenges.
Actually it's really hardest to connect worlds that just don't exist at all to each other. Jim Henson's The Dark Crystal, or something, crossed with, um, Star Trek. Ow, my brain.

Yeah, there are so many other much better things to connect than...Merlin/HP/Buffy...

well, but if you were to, say, get Mab into the HP world (which would be very easy), what to do with her once she's there? shall she join the Good Side? Or Voldemort (which I would not think because neither would want to make room for the other)? but himiko wrote the greatest crossover ever.

<is flattered>
Hang on, back track a minute! You have written a Miranda characters crossover, Incapa? Where would this be located? Must read!
And you know what I think about Mab in the HP world- she wouldn't join either side. She'd defeat them ALL!!!!!!!!!!! Muahahahahaha!
